      This isn't a request for info on where to find roms, more about working with what I have.

      I have mame2003 working fine, a nice 0.78 romset that only has one copy of each of the games so the list is nice and concise. Unfortunately, the romset I have for fba seems 'full' and as a result I have every localisation and update for 1943 etc, it makes the list horrible.

      I have been unable to find a non-merged set for fba 0.2.97.44, but I understand this is based upon Mame so what would be the correct Mame romset to look for? I figure if I can find a non-merged set I should be able to create a decent games list from that.

        @chubsta .44 is synced with current mame though a "non-merged" romset would have more roms, not less. sounds like you need to look into https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Validating,-Rebuilding,-and-Filtering-ROM-Collections

          @dankcushions thanks for the quick reply - I figure with a non-merged set I will be able to more easily grab the games and create a smaller list off stuff I will actually play, rather then wonder if there romset I have is complete enough to actually play. I can get copies of Mame without too much trouble but working out if the roms would work with fba is another matter.

          I will check that guide out though, see if I can somehow automate the process of removing versions of games I don't need, although I am having issues with Clrmamepro.

            @chubsta well if you can't get non-merged then go with split or fully merged. It really doesn't matter, you can build whatever set you want with the right DATs and a little clrmamepro (you can usually tell people who use clrmpro by how many head-sized holes in their walls). Or if you have a split set it is "easily" merged or non-merged.

            Not sure if its ok to post DATs here, but they are easily found. I am no pro with clrmamepro but if you list your issues we may be able to hack through them.

              Why shouldn't be ? They're part of the emulator's package and don't contain ROMs or other copyrighted material. You can find them either on the project's page and they're even installed with the lr-fbalpha package in /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-fbalpha/dats.

                Careful with that statement, it's mostly true but there are exceptions, as an example i know a lot of pgm games won't work if you use a mame romset without converting it to a fbalpha one through clrmamepro (every few months i have people who report issues saying "pgm games don't work" thanks to that). FBAlpha also includes a lot of hacks from hbmame, some are fun.

                @chubsta Sorry, i don't provide "no-clone" dat files, and i don't recommend it either :

                • a few parents aren't working and are there only to get their clones working
                • idk about 1943 specifically, but some games are different from a clone to another, i think that's especially true for a few shmup where you get different foes/pattern, i noticed that while working on a bug with raiden2 last year.
