Correct console nomenclature
-
Hey guys and gals!
This one is for the more academic types out there.
I'm currently building an extensive and exhaustive database of best games ever made. I'm going full-professional on this one and am currently at odds with the console nomenclature.
I'll give an example.
Being a European, I always referred to the Sega Genesis as "Mega Drive" - its original Japanese name. However, I referred to the Famicom as the NES, just like in the U.S.
Other examples include the Atari 2600 / VCS, the PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16 and obviously the Super Famicom / SNES and the Sega / Mega CD.
My question is, what naming convention would you guys use? Refer to each system by their original name? Or their more common / western name? Or would you use both to distinguish Japanese/US/European-exclusive games?

@MrSkyle Probably use both. Be easier that way.
You'd end up having more entries, but only use the alternate name for games released in that region.
Like:
Addams Family Values - Mega Drive EU
The Addams Family - Genesis US
