Every rom on every emulator I try runs unplayably slow. I’m running it on a pc that has more than enough specs to handle the job. I’ve done the following to try and remedy:

      1. Checked power supply
      2. Changed emulators
      3. Tried different roms
      4. Changed throttle settings on retroarch.

I’m getting ready to give up on this side project of mine and hoping someone could help me. Let me know. Thank you!

@ballplaer14 Can you give more details about your system and setup - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

You say your pc has enough power, what kind of system do you have setup ?

I suspect a GPU issue - being that the system you have is brand new (middle 2018 ?) - the video drivers might not be providing hardware acceleration, running with a slow software rendering stack.
You can check this by exiting Emulationstation, then opening a terminal and typing
glxinfo | grep -i 'direct rendering'. If the result is no, then your GPU doesn't have acceleration.

I would suggest installing Ubuntu 19.04 and see if the slowdown persists.

Then I don't know what could cause the slowdown with the info so far. Does the system run slow ? Can you play an Youtube video with the browser to see if works ok ?

@ballplaer14 Then I have no idea. You could get a detailed log from the emulator - when starting a game, use the Runcommand launch menu and enable 'Run with Verbose logging'. Play the game a bit, then exit the emulator. Upload the /dev/shm/runcommand.log to pastebin.com and give us the URL. There might be something in your configuration that's causing this.

@mitu I launched the game with verbose logging but I can’t find the log file.

@ballplaer14 It should be a file - /dev/shm/runcommand.log - on your system. Open it with a text editor (gedit) and then copy the contents to pastebin.com.

I think your TV's resolution (3840x2160) is too large for your GPUs capabilities. Try changing the resolution to 1080p and put the TV into game mode.

Actually that GPU can handle that. I think the issue is the frequency. My desktop defaults to 30hz initially on my 4k TV which makes everything look like its running like garbage when internally it is not.
You might get a clearer picture by putting it back into 3840x2160 then setting the refresh rate to 60hz where it should be normal. Should be...

Alright i know the issue is the refresh rate:
[INFO] [Video]: Average monitor Hz: 30.000300 Hz. (0.834 % frame time deviation, based on 2048 last samples).
