I want to know what version FBA romset to use? I haven't touched my pi in many years. I just updated and noticed FBA runs alot better then before. Less button delay then mame.
I think im going to replace my mame with fba set instead. My older neogeo set works fine but may as well put all of them on.
Im using a pi 3b if that even matters.
I went to the retropi wiki and fba just directs me back to the home page of the wiki. weird other options worked fine.

There is no FBA anymore, it's been superseded by FinalBurn Neo. As FBAlpha before, FBNeo is in constant flux and new things are added/improved.

Which page or link exactly ? FBAlpha has been replaced by FBNeo in the docs, but some other wiki pages might have links to old pages.

@Deltax5 Thanks for the heads up, I corrected the link.
I guess you should follow the advice fro the FBNeo developer - use the .dat file distributed with FBNeo (https://github.com/libretro/FBNeo/tree/master/dats) plus a recent MAME ROMset and ClrMamePro should be able to produce a valid FBNeo ROMset. At the time of the fork, the version of FBA was 0.2.97.44, so I guess a ROMset titled FinalBurn Neo 0.2.97.44 would work - but you should validate it first just to be 100% sure it's up to date.

FBNeo is recommended for input lag :

                • afaik, at standard settings the input lag is generally the same or lesser than any mame core (if you find one game where it's not the case, please report it)
                • it has wide support for read ahead

There are changes to the romsets regularly, however most of them shouldn't break support for romsets which are a bit older. To be on the safe side it is highly recommended to run clrmamepro to fix your romsets and hunt for the few dumps you are missing every time you update your FBNeo core (which are mostly in sync with latest mame dumps, 0.211 at the moment i write those lines).

As long as it have the one's the pi runs ill be happy. looking for neogeo, pgm, cps 1,2,3, Cave, everything else is extra and welcome.

Merged is generally pointless in an emulationstation setup. Use either split or non-merged.
If you don't know the exact differences, here is an explanation : https://docs.mamedev.org/usingmame/aboutromsets.html

It seems a bit small, but maybe it's using a high compression algorythm.

Not sure it's still the case but people were experiencing slowdowns on pi3b (not on b+) in sfiii2 after some major update to the cps3 driver some months ago.

Is there settings to set for better performance then default.
Im hoping the pi 4 has better performance with run ahead. i can get some games with it to run fine with it on with some overclocked with the pi 3b.

@barbudreadmon My 3b+ does get frame drops now but the average person won't notice it. Usually at intensive moments like a super.

Supposedly it has 2x-3x the performance of a pi3, so yeah i guess it will help a lot, but i own an odroid n2 which clearly outperform the pi4 (more recent cpu with higher frequency) and it's still unable to run some games full speed iirc (and i'm not talking about the special case of killer instinct)
