MAME ROW stands for MAME Random Of the Week. We randomly select an arcade game from the 0.78 MAME Reference Set to play on the week. The idea is to play games we've never played before, interact with other forum members, post hi-scores, share game strategies, fun facts, and (the most important) HAVE FUN!
We're still working things out with the new MAME ROW structure. We will play the winner all next week.

"Polyplay" is very unique, it is the only Arcade-Cabinet that was built and used in the former DDR / socialistic East-Germany till the tear down of the Wall in 1990.
It is of course not a good game!, but has got a mentionable history. -
Vs. Excitebike gets my vote, I absolutely love this iconic piece of gaming history :)
-
@AndersHP Yep. My feelings exactly. I have a great love of this game.
-
This week's winner is Vs. Excitebike
-
@obsidianspider Very nice, one of my favorite games on the NES. I just forgot to vote, but it won anyways. This is practically the NES version without editor. I'm curious how it plays as a highscore game.
-
@thelostsoul
Yes, I guess we have to post laptime records per track?
@caver01 buddy, isn't this something for you to join in on? :) -
@AndersHP There is a score on the bottom right. Will test it out today.
-
My first try, so it should be fairly easy to beat it. There is a highscore mechanic, a good place in each race gives bonus points, but other than that, I don't know how to get more points.
- Score: 034890
-
I'm going to have to bone up too, but I remember that selection of jumps is important, but so is when to and when NOT to wipe out enemy bikes. If you keep some close to you at certain times, they won't be showing up later where you don't want them in the way. I can remember going over a huge jump only to plow into a bike I shouldn't have wiped out earlier...
-
Here's my first contribution, starting from track # 1 (beginner). 64.455
Also, I challenge anyone to beat my 1:00:06 time on race # 1 - that was a pretty good race! :)
There's a start-bonus if starting from:
- track # 2 (intermediate) = 30.000 points
- track # 3 (advanced) = 60.000 points.
But since I think the first tracks are hard enough, I started from track # 1. Getting through track 3 is too much hair-pulling for me at the moment :D
-
@AndersHP Hope I find time to play this game ;)
-
MAME ROW #143 is live!
-
No challengers? That's a shame :(
-
@AndersHP I couldn't get past the 2nd track! Those CPU bikes keep getting in the way.
-
Another way to avoid CPU bikes getting in the way is to hang out at the top of the track when possible before wiping them out, they have to walk all the way to the bottom to retrieve their bike which means it is longer before they return.
-
I'd also like to ask why does every DBZ fighting game suck monkey nuts?!? You would think it was the easiest genre to make a fighting game out of but it just tries to get too gimmicky and wind up feeling awkward.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
