rP3B+, RetroPie4.5.1, ES, Roms on USB SSD. I updated the retropie setup script and then installed lr-flycast, lr-freeintv and lr-o2em. I added bioses and roms in the new folders that had appeared for Dreamcast, Intellivision and Videopac. I doublechecked I have the correct filetypes for the roms for each of the systems and md5 checksums for thr bioses. None of the three systems showed up in ES. I booted the system and updated RA, Retropie, ES and the three emulators. I then booted the system but still nothing. What am I doing wrong?

@m2306 I use a custom es_systems.cfg and have pulled my hair out with a similar problem. have you customized your es_systems.cfg?

If you aren't using the retropie-mount method you'll likely run into these issues.

If you read the documentation it will answer 99% of your questions: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/

Also if you want a solution to your problems read this first: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first

@simpleethat Yes. I added a CPS folder but ended up not using it. How can I fix this? I followed all the steps in the tutorial (https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Add-a-New-System-in-EmulationStation/) which includes making a custum copy of the config file. I’m fine with deleting the custom copy and returning to default but I don’t know Linux good enough to reverse the process without examples. Especially when it’s important files that can get displaced.

@herb_fargus What do you mean? The roms are on an SSD with the retropie-mount folder in the root.

@m2306 if you copied the es_systems.cfg you will have to keep it up to date manually. Why did you copy it? (Edit: Ah to add CPS). Retropie only manages the systems config in /etc/emulationstation so new entries get added there. Your copied file overrides this so you won't see new systems if you don't keep it in sync.

(This is explained on the docs page you linked . You will have to decide if you want to maintain this custom file or use the default).

@BuZz I see now that I should have paid more attention to the tutorial. Just to make sure, if I do: ”rm es_systems.cfg” inside /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/ I will remove the custom version of the cfg file and the system will drop back to using the default version?

[edit] I trusted myself to be able to do this without someone holding my hand. It worked.

[solution] After adding a new, custom system as outlined here (https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Add-a-New-System-in-EmulationStation/) any updates to the es_systems.cfg will not become visible. They have to be added to the custom file. I did not need the custom version anymore so I just deleted it. All of this is stated in the above tutorial (which unfortunately makes me look like an idiot but the least I can do is admit it..).

In general, if you are about to rm something into oblivion, consider mv'ing it somewhere safe instead. ;)
