mame2003-plus: hundreds of new games, improved input, features, new bugs - now with runahead support

Couple of decent fixes for Elevator Action Returns and Fighters History that are worth a mention..........
In current MAME and even the Taito Legends sets if you shot the lights or power boxes in Elevator Actions returns the game doesn't go dark, but i found a fix for
this in an old shmupMAME src and i've added support for this main feature of the gameplay to MAME2003+ also expect this in the latest FBN builds as i gave dink
the heads up about it earlier.Elevator Action II
I thought i'd fixed this small sprite priority bug on Ryoko's level but it's sorted now at anyrate
Fighters History Before and after

@arcadez2003 Keeping the awesomeness coming, I see.
I would love some Elevator Action Returns, but the one time I tried it, it ran really slow. Is this due to the (lack of) horsepower on a Pi 3B+, or is it an emulation issue?

Taito F3 needs something more powerful than a pi3b+ to run with FBNeo, idk about MAME2003+
-
@barbudreadmon With an oc'd pi3b+ and frameskip enabled it's "playable" on Plus, but with a pi4 it's full speed on both emulators. I haven't tried but I've seen people say taito f3 games and even st-v games run fullspeed on advancemame. I wish that was a libretro core.

Emulation on lesser spec hardware i suppose, on the xbox with a similar ole MAME core that has the speedups in the taito_f3 driver we get around 20 - 30 fps
depending on which game it is, i think it's the soundcore which causes the issues if we had a speedup for that similar to say DCS for the Midway games we'd
get a big ole boost. -
Incredible, the hack has bean realized :D
Please, will you add it to MAME2003+ ... to play it on PI <3

@arcadez2003 I second emulation issues.
I am using a non-overclocked Pi3B+ with AdvanceMame_3.9 and "Elevator Action Returns" (as well as other Taito F3-Games) run great without hacks or frame-skipping.
I love this game, so i was very happy when it got a remarkable performance-boost with AdvanceMame_3.0, with the Version 1.4 and lower Taito F3 was also very laggy (=unplayable).@darksavior: SEGA Titan (STV) Games dont run smooth on AdvanceMame. They do start - but they are way too laggy to have fun playing them, some even have major graphic-issues.
As mentioned: speaking about a non-overclocked Pi3B+ without any perfomance-tweaks.
Talking about "i wish it was a libretro-core": i dont feel any disantvantages.
I can map various actions on several buttons of several input devices (as example: Button A = Joystick Button 1 plus Arcade-Stick Button 1 plus Keyboard Button A...and so on.)
You cant do that with retrorach.
The scanlines (various to choose) look great and overall you get the same feeling and handling as a libretro-core, but better performance and support of the 0.106 romset. -

Thanks for this awesome work. You even anticipated my question about the EAR light fix in FBN. 😃👍

@sirhenrythe5th I do the same with Elevator Action Returns, although I believe I'm using AdvanceMame 3.7 rather than 3.9. It's been the only emulator so far that works full speed, as far as I can tell. However, I'm not sure whether the "lights go out" if you shoot the lights/power boxes. Recollection is that it doesn't and I'm not near my pi to try it out.

Hello,
I would greatly appreciate if someone were able to get Golden Axe Revenge of Death Adder working properly? Is there I way I can setup or contribute to a donation to help the cause? -
@GreenHawk84 I've asked in the past and the answer was no. It'll break too much stuff or something. Get a pi4 and use mame2010,2015 or 2016.
-
@GreenHawk84 imho, proper
ga2
emulation will require something more powerful than a pi3, whatever the emulator.PS :
ga2
's graphic is still tagged as imperfect in latest mame : http://adb.arcadeitalia.net/dettaglio_mame.php?game_name=ga2&lang=en , i don't think this game's emulation got any major upgrade since 2010. -

Noted, I will have to see when Pi4 Retropie is official and steady.

Very unfortunate since this game is so cool!

With more accurate emulation to get rid of the glitches, it'll be slower, iirc it doesn't run full speed with mame2010 on rpi3.

https://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=28073.60I already have the prelim code setup for this one although there will likely be some trial and error till i suss out what CPS1 video mappings it will need
as this core's CPS1 video code is totally different to the current MAME sources the game was added to.But i cant test any of the above or make progress until i can track down the correct rom as i dont have have the tools on my PC to make one as per the instructions
-
@arcadez2003 FWIW, at the moment it's freezing (in intro) with FBNeo... not sure what's the problem, i'll need some help from dink on this one.

The video code although imperfect is faster hence you get good performance in the older cores..............
0.97u4: Rewrote the System 32 sprite mixer layer to support accurate implementation of the alpha blending modes. Sprite shadows and several other effects are still not yet
implemented. "And it's much slower than before" <------Using the xbox as an example we lost 40 to 50fps in the Sega System 32 and Multi 32 games by using the above video changes, so i had to back out and revert to using
the older video code as it was the difference between the games functioning or not, im sure alotta platforms that use this core would get a similar hit in the
performance dept.Anyway the updated driver which they created to work with the newer video code has some incompatible input by tagging code and mirroring in the mem maps
which will always be the big stumbling block to anyone who attempts to backport it to this core but hey good luck to anyone who feels like taking it on. -

@barbudreadmon i was going to suggest it might be the dips or the inputs but i see you've got it sorted now, need to ask ya a quick question though are you
able to coin up and start a game as player 3.?? as im finding the inputs for player 3 work fine i can start and play the game but only if player 1 or 2 has
coined up firstly as nothing happens if i try to add a coin for player 3. -
@arcadez2003 i confirm this behavior, do you know if the same happens with the mame version from https://github.com/originalgrego/mame ? Maybe the author of the hack didn't bother with this since ffight has no per player credit counter ?
-
@arcadez2003 answering myself : considering there is no "Coin C" in dips, and the input test doesn't show a 3rd coin either, i'm almost sure the hack doesn't support a third coin input. I guess i'll need to clean up the input list to avoid confusion.
