      I am posting some of my knowledge to date, in this case specifically regarding the best practice to shrink an image - straight from your sd card! :D

      This is it guys:

      Running into errors? restart computer, run BIOS and ENABLE CPU Virtualization Technology! problem solved.

      I am certain this will help you lots.

      There was another question regarding retropie image editing. Best way to add / erase roms from your image is to get your PI online (ethernet cable is the easiest, fastest way). Find it on your computer browser typing \RETROPIE then find the roms folder.
