Flycast MVC2 unplayable. Slow and audio crackling.

@tackett1980 it runs 90%-100% speed on my overclocked pi 3b+. You cant use lr-flycast you have to use reicast on a pi 3 otherwise it's much too slow. Also, overclocking your
core_freq
and reducing the pis output resolution to 640x480 will also help greatly. Keep in mind that overclocking can be very effective at getting a performance boost but if you don't spend the time to do it right you will end up with an unstable overclock that will freeze/crash your pi (you won't damage it but you could corrupt your sd card). -

A: there is an input issue with reicast and the newest version of retropie. I had attempted to use reicast and for some reason it would not ever remember my control mapping.B: the pi3b+ cannot be overclocked as effectively as the 3.
Is this information incorrect?

This is not true, both the pi3b and pi3b+ share the same GPU. Your overclocking limit is going to be unique to your own pi. No two Pi's are exactly the same, no level overclock is guaranteed (look up silicon lottery). That said, in my experience I have gotten better GPU overclocks on my pi3b+'s compared to my 3b's. The pi3b+'s CPU is already "overclocked" compared to the pi 3b so you don't really need to mess with that.

I apologize I misunderstood you were talking about overclocking the core speed of the GPU and not the cpu.
I may give this a shot.

@tackett1980 Also, you should reduce the video up-scaling to 640x480 in the runcommand menu.

@tackett1980 the default gpu freq of 400 is just way too crappy for 3D, try setting it to 600

@barbudreadmon setting gpu_freq=600 very likely will cause instability on a pi 3 (I have never seen one handle a GPU overclock this high). Some pi 3's I have used were stable if just the GPU core_freq=600 (this is all that's needed, the v3d block of the GPU isn't the bottleneck on the pi 3 in my testing anyway).
@tackett1980 really the best solution is to get a pi 4, the GPU is much better and you can run lr-flycast which is much easier to use and configure.

1: I’m a moron and I built this with a pi 3 and not a 3b+ So that explains some of the performance discrepancy.
2: I didn’t think retropie supported pi4 yet?

Not a big power difference between the 3b and 3b+ so not really a big mistake.
2: I didn’t think retropie supported pi4 yet?
It's not yet officially supported, but there is an official WIP build available. It's not complete yet but a lot of it works just fine (including Dreamcast).
