Using "super resolutions" with a crt - any way to correct the emulationstation aspect ratio?
-
So I'm using my RPi connected to a CRT, and I'm using a "super resolution" in my config.txt to output 240p, but with a horizontal resolution of 1920. This lets me use a custom viewport to display arcade and console games near-perfectly.
However, it renders Emulationstation basically unusable as everything is horizontally squished. I can't find any kind of information as to whether I can do the same kind of "custom viewport" thing or if I'm just stuck with either a great menu and shit game scaling, or vice-versa. And it seems the pi can't switch resolutions on the fly, so that options gone.

@konp One idea is to not boot straight into the 1920x240 resolution, but to change it on the fly whenever you launch a ROM - through runcommand-onstart.sh . This way you can adjust the resolution based on the system.
Check https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/11628/240p-and-mame-scaling/12 for something similar or https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/8521/best-way-to-output-scart-rgb-from-pi-3/68.EDIT: worth checking https://github.com/libretro/libretro-meta/issues/73.

Well, Mike Chi decided to completely remove the "instructions" section on his website he talks about both there and in the video, which means I can't actually do that setup.
Unless someone has the config file kit he had up for download.

@konp You can email him directly or try the RetroPie image he has for download to see how it's set up.

This may be an old topic but can you tell us what settings you use to set super resolution? Are you outputting through the built in composite? I can’t find info on it anywhere.
-
Super resolutions are used for GPIO and HDMI outputs, composite needs different configs.

Ya I know, I got my composite setup perfect, but the only way to get rid of the rainbow moire on dithered textures was to use a shader made specifically for outputting over the pi’s comp plug, doesn’t add much blur, but it’s def not perfect. Was hoping somebody figured out how to hack this res into the yellow plug, haha. Wishful thinking.
