Following all the steps in https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Debian/#installation
I get the error:https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Debian/#installation= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Of course I already checked that "tar" package is installed.
I already search this problem but I didn't find it, sorry in advance if it's already mentioned in previous post and I did not search it properly.
thanks 4 your help!

Looks like an incorrect archive downloaded that cannot be unpacked - is your internet connection ok ?
-
Hi @mitu
Thanks for your answer!Yes, I´m recently experiencing some momentary connectivity losses (maybe network is a bit overloaded these days)
I will try to edit the sh files, maybe something that ensures that "git pull or clone" commands downloads successfully and try it again if not.
Thanks again!

I recommend using a more recent Ubuntu release and not 16.04. Try using a 18.04 release (20.04 will also be LTS, probably going to be released this year).
-
Yes, I've thought about upgrading the dist, do you think it will help to deal with the weak connectivity?
I'm on a virtualbox vm and I don't want to increase resources a lot, anyway I think I will try.Thanks again, @mitu

No, if the connectivity is a problem of your ISP connection, it wouldn't help.

Why are you running it in a VM ?
-
Cause I want to play it on a mac os laptop, is there any emulation station compatible?
-
@gonzalobd I'm sure there are front-ends like EmulationStation available on macOS - OpenEmu or Pegasus for instance. You don't need to install RetroPie in a VM to play old games on macOS.
-
Nice! I will check them :-)

I'm seeing exact same error. Trying to install on Lubuntu 19.04. Any other things to try besides changing the OS? Got this setup on an old Acer netbook with minimal resources. Thanks!

@djrpascu The issues of the original poster are from a poor internet connection - if you're experiencing the same error, there's nothing that we can do. Are you receiving the exact same error ?
-
Yes, I was getting the same error and don't think it was Internet connection related. However, I just got passed it by going into "Configuration/Tools" > RetroArch > Manage Assets and installed that. Still running into issues, but will work through those now. Thanks!
