Sega CD BIOS/Games doesn't appear to boot
-
So far I have had great success in getting all cores to works as I like except the Sega CD. I have tried almost everything I could find online but alas, nothing so far has worked.
Pi Model or other hardware: RPi 4B
Power Supply used: N/A
RetroPie Version Used: 4.5.1
Built From: on top of Raspbian GNU 10
USB Devices connected: Keyboard, Mouse, Wired Xbox One Controller
Controller used: Wired Third Party Xbox One
Error messages received: None, goes to blank screen
Log found in /dev/shm/runcommand.log (if relevant): https://pastebin.com/uxmPKGxE
Emulator: lr-genesis-plus-gx
How to replicate the problem: Launch any Sega CD Game. It will show the controller that is detected as a pop up but stay as a back screen.Things to note:
-
Based on previous threads here and on other sites, I have ensured that the syntax of everything is correct: The BIOS file is in /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/ folder and its named
bios_CD_U.bin
-
I double checked the md5 value and confirmed that it matched with the one found in https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Sega-CD
-
The bios and files are not corrupted as they run perfectly in Retroarch in my Windows PC
-
I double checked to make sure Retroarch was pointing to the proper directories and everything seems to be fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As with most disc based games, make sure the
.cue
file contents match the real.bin
file names, Linux filesystems are case-sensitive, so if the.cue
references afile1.bin
, the name of the.bin
file on disk should be exactlyfile1.bin
. -
I double checked the bin/cue files of my games, they are an exact match with correct syntax. If that was the problem wouldn't the BIOS load up anyway to the CD player screen? In this case it is loading up to a black screen and stays until I cancel out of the emulator.
-
@thebonniebear In this case check the image file(s). I tried a validated CD rip (
.cue/.bin
) for the game you mentioned (USA version) and I don't see an issue. -
Hm, so this is odd, I tried other games bin/cue files and they seems to run fine, so I guess its not my BIOS file. I verified the image of Android Assault, and everything appears to be okay.
I checked just to make sure I wasn't going crazy, and the same exact .bin/.cue files run perfect on my Windows PC in retroarch.
Do you know what problem would cause some games to run and not others? Am I overlooking a setting?

Check again the
.bin
filenames for the game against the.cue
file's contents. Post the.cue
file for the game and a listing of the.bin
files from the disc. -
Case sensitivity INSIDE another file has gotten me multiple times.
