Why is the screen size smaller on Retropie 4.6 on the Pi4 than all previous other versions and how can it be made the same as before?
-
Does anyone know why the screen size on Retropie 4.6 on the Pi4 is smaller than all previous other versions? The default startup screens are all smaller and all cores appear to be smaller too! Has anyone else noticed this and how do I rectify it please?

@uncledisgusting Turn off overscan. It's on by default. Then there's the issue of emulators not scaling correctly. The aspect ratio is set to "custom" by default. I change it to "core provided" and that fixes it.
-
@Darksavior Where is the turn off overscan option please?
-
@uncledisgusting raspi-config. Then head to Advanced Options.
-
@Darksavior Thank you - that did the trick! Do you know why overscan would be set to on by default?
-
@uncledisgusting I think this has always been the default. Are you using a different tv than the one you had last time you setup RetroPie?
-
@Darksavior should be "core provided" aspect ratio by default. Sure you don't have some old configs ? The offsets for this config value changed so if you saved retroarch configs out on older version it may be wrong. It's definitely not custom on mine with a default retroarch config.
-
@quicksilver No - exactly the same monitor!
-
@BuZz You're right. I thought I was starting clean. Re-tested by uninstalling retroarch and an emulator, deleting cfg remnants, and reinstalling those and it's back to
core provided
. Odd, I always usecore provided
and I've never used a custom image. Maybe a new version doesn't like older configs.Going into the rgui does add overscan until I goto the video options but it doesn't affect the game.
-
@Darksavior That's what I was referring to. If you have saved out your retroarch config on older version the offset will be wrong (the aspect ratio is a number which is an offset into a list - they added a new aspect ratio, but not at the end, so it broke old configs).
