You are asking for 3rd party images in a place that explicitly forbids support for them. Unless you intend to use the official clean image, your inquiries are not going to be answered here.

        Hi there,

Yes I'm not after any 3rd party images.. each attempt at my build has been from the official image. I don't want any roms or anything, I have everything to add myself. I just wondered if there was anything that existed (official) that was more recent than the floobs one that is out there?

        Cheers

        Jamie

My issue is I have tried to do a clean build a few times and I do this from floobs image which during setup requires an update to allow attract mode to work - during this process something always goes wrong.

Not quite sure how that functioned back in the day (the image is from 2016), but now AttractMode is included in RetroPie and it's installable like any other package - getting you the latest version of AttractMode. I'd say you start with the normal 4.6 image and go from there.

@Thorr69 The @Floob image was an experiment done before AttractMode was included in RetroPie, 4 years ago (see https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/93/).

@Thorr69 No worries atall, I understand theres alot of prohibited activity!

@mitu - Im just in the process of installing from scratch the new..

Ive put in my controller inputs (My cab is using an ipac2), whats the best way from the start to get the player 2 controls in??

I found Attract mode in Experimental packages - do I install from pre-compiled binary or Source??

Im being super careful this time around to get everything correct from the start!

                Thanks for all the help

                Cheers

Depends on how the IPAC2 is configured, does it appear as a gamepad/2 gamepads or as a keyboard ?

                  Install from binary is faster.

@mitu update from before.. I've installed attract mode through Binary and it did its stuff, though on the Retropie menu there is no option to enter/start attract mode? I did a reboot right after installing Attract mode... Is there something I'm not doing??

On the note of controls it seems to have sorted itself out by default.. I started a game and the insert coin, start and controls work on my player 2 controls :)

Its just the attract mode I need to sort!

                      Again any help very appreciated

                      Cheers

@jamietuley I think there's no gui/option to start AttractMode automatically, instead of EmulationStation. What you can do though, is to edit the autostart settings and manually edit the autostart file, replacing emulationstation with attract - see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/FAQ/#how-do-i-boot-to-the-desktop-or-kodi.

@mitu One final addition I'm afraid..

I'm also trying to sort a sound issue out which I did before with no problems at all, the procedure is:

                          59498409-f5b7-4737-9be7-b49f64c01b8c-image.png

Though when try to edit the config.txt in /boot it wont let me overide the file? I'm using WinSCP.

                          Cheers

                            Leaving us so soon ?

That's because the file is not writeable by the pi user, it's a protected system file. Easiest way is to plug your SDcard into your PC and modify it there.

                                @mitu its me again :)

So I changed the auto startup to boot into Attract mode - the attract mode is completely bare bones but to the point where its not picking up on the 3 roms I put in:

                                /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro

Was that the right folder to place my roms in? They are from a 0.78 set - emulation station can see them but not attract mode?

Now I'm sure there is a stage I'm not doing here?? If you could shed some light that would be GREAT!

                                Cheers

@mitu and just when I thought things were going ok my sound is not working!

I tried to set the audio by editing the boot/config.txt as I have a USB dongle for my sound hooked upto the amp.

I made the config look like this:

                                  5a3456c1-0940-4fe7-94c1-a4d2b52f2e8d-image.png

Just by changing on to off.

My emulation Station sound settings look like this:

                                  20200523_141539_resized_1.jpg

Following instruction from the forum (which worked on my previous build) I changed these settings:

                                  91e0f555-429d-4f51-8bbf-d63604b16832-image.png

I did wonder if the system volume at 0% was the issue but that's something that just wont save when I set it higher?

As you can see I am at a loss :(

Thanks in advance for you wise words..

                                  Cheers

I can't help you with attract-mode setup, I'm not using it. I think you need to add the folder yourself and scan it for ROMs.

If you disabled the on-board sound and your USB soundcard is the only output option, then the in EmulationStation the Audio Card should be set to 'Defaut' and the Default Device to PCM or Master (?). But the settings here affect only EmulationStation and not AttractMode or the emulators, so if you're not using EmulationStation, it's ok to leave them at defaults.
