Redream crashes..again and no idea how I solved it.

@Darksavior Maybe it's your overclock ?
-
Retropie 4.6.1
PS4 ControllersI have been keeping mine updated whenever new updates are available and so far not had any issues with redream. I have been playing lots of games on it. All in Chd format.

I've never encountered such a weird emulator. A few weeks ago I had usb reading problems. I finally got a brand new usb 3.0 stick so hopefully no more problems with that..
No problems on my end. I just updated yesterday. Can you try without the USB flash drive? Maybe just load a ROM or two on the SD card itself just to rule that out?

Ok so I tested a bit more and I just had a game freeze up on me
Edit: can't reproduce it though
Edit 2: Another game just crashed after running for 15-20 mins.
@Darksavior How quickly do the crashes occur for you?
-
@mitu The games would instantly crash back to the menu so it's not my overclock. My other games from other systems load fine.
@quicksilver When it happened? Instantly. I can't reproduce it anymore that's why I said it's weird. What's interesting is that a guy on fb is having the same problems. The usb problem was from my old stick and this one's brand new. If this lone system is giving me issues and not the rest, I'm not going to remove it from troubleshooting. -
The crashing issue I was having was due to my wireless Xbox 360 controller disconnecting. As soon as it went to sleep, redream would crash. I reported to inolen and he stated it looks like an sdl bug, of which he will report upstream.
-
I tested mine with a 2 player approx 45 mins yesterday still no issues.
Using 2 ps4 dualshock bluetooth controllerrs.
It will be interesting to know if Darksavior uses The Xbox 360 Wireless controller also. -
@Simrose No. Original snes pads connected to gpio for console games. 360 madcatz joystick for arcade games. Ps4 pad for dreamcast and psp.
-
I just left a game on in background while doing other stuff and when I came back to it after approx 15 mins like you said the game had exited back to ES. No errors on screen. So something to do with sleeping? When playing yesterday it wasn't a problem.
-
Can you guide me through the fix, I'm not sure how to follow your steps.
Thanks Sim -
It could be game related as i tried another game and left it for even longer and it didn't exit back to ES
Edit I just tried the same game which exits and it happened again very quickly within a few minutes just loading the game up and not doing anything.
I will test the game what didn't exit again and a few others

Hi @Darksavior , this is different from @quicksilver 's issue. Quicksilver hit a bug in SDL where it crashes when the Xbox One controller disconnects after 10-20 minutes, the bug you're hitting is because redream is unable to write to the cache/ directory.
I've just pushed a change which prints the filename it fails to write to, but my guess is the whole directory is inaccessible for some reason.
-
Im only using games which are passed in the compatible charts.
Some games don't have issue they stay working but I've found a few now which everytime you load them without pressing any button on controller after they load within 1-3 minutes they exit back to ES.
Didn't help me by changing to root or trying latest redream build and reinstalling
I noticed I couldn't change the cfg and a few other files in redream emulator folder to root.

You shouldn't be using
root
to launch games/emulator - this can break existing permissions and lead to unexpected errors down the road. -
@mitu
Thanks I'll uninstall and reinstall. I don't normally change permissions set by retropie. Just thought it might fix it.I guess I'll just have to try and find another solution
