      Raspberry Pi4
      Retropie 4.6.1 Raspbien GNU/Linux 10 <buster>
      Corsair RGB Keyboard and Mouse
      Canakit power adapter

When I start any game for retropie the gray screen comes up with the configuration option then it goes right back to the rom selection screen. When I go to properties for the folder there is no option for turning off read me only. Any help would be appreciated.

What game/ROM ? Some systems require a BIOS file installed, without which the games will not start.

That's a Windows thing, you can ignore it.

@mitu All SNES files and all the free games that came with either ethe canakit or retropie. Which was Doom and Duke nukem (not snes obviously). The SNES files are .NES and .SMC. Using the snes9x emulator that came with Retropie.

We don't distribute games with Retropie. Did you install RetroPie yourself or it came installed with the ROMs ?

If it's the video from last year, it's badly outdated and should not be followed. Right now the best way to install RetroPie on a Pi4 is to get the image from retropie.org.uk/download and follow the documentation.
The SNES system does not understand .nes files, but .smc files should be ok. Can you show a listing of the snes ROM folder with the files there ?

Post the image on imgur.com and then add the link here.
.zip files are ok for snes, so if the ROMs don't appear after you restart EmulationStation, check if you haven't accidentally enabled the 'Parse Gamelists Only' option in EmulationStation's settings.

Most likely the ROM is corrupt or incorrect. Post the emulator log file (/dev/shm/runcommand.log) taken after launching the game. Use the runcommand launch menu to toggle verbose logging when launching it, then get the log file and post it on pastebin.com.

@simpleethat I open it through the application launch bar by typing "emulationstation". No quotations obviously

Retropie is not designed to be run from the desktop (on the raspberry pi). You would be better off using our premade image.

@BuZz I thought the youtube guide I followed did download it directly. Obviously not so I will do that. Thank you.
