Recently discovered RetroPie - running it on Ubuntu and loving it. Saved me compiling from mame source to remove nag screens etc.

Most games seem to be working perfectly but Asteroids is really slow. I have tried using both Mame 2003 and 2010. Would appreciate any advice.

Using the latest version of retro pie - well it was when I installed it last week.

        My apologies...

RetroPie Version 4.6.1 (Last commit 2 weeks ago (03c8ea7)

        Running on a Zotac Box ID80 mini-pc (Intel Atom D2700 @ 2.13GHZ, 8 GB of RAM)
        Installed on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

I downloaded a reference version of Mame2003 ROMs.

        Thank you.

Actually just switched to a different monitor and now its working fine. I also installed Mame 2003 plus, but not sure if that would have done anything.

Apologies for wasting your time and thanks again.
