I way exploring the settings in RetroArch (I've never changed anything, just using the defaults) and I went to the Online Updater. I believe I did "Update Core Info Files", "Update Assets", and "Update Autoconfig Files". I figured updating is good, so I'd give it a shot.

Well now when I press Start and Select on my controllers, the game just restarts. I can't exit. The keyboard works the same as before though. I can use it to exit games.

What did I screw up and how can I change it back? Thanks in advance for any help.

Can you post your /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg file on pastebin so we can check it looks ok?
Also, please post one of your system specific retroarch.cfg files (one that has been causing issues for you).

Please read the Docs before asking a new question.

@Floob Whoo, Baby! Ok, thanks for the reply. I do not know what pastebin in or how to use it, but I will read about it and attempt to learn. Sorry for being so dumb about this.

I do know how to locate the .cfg files you mentioned, so that is a start, haha.

If you visit pastebin.com you'll see a text area - paste in the file contents there and submit the form. It will give you a URL you can share here.

@Floob Wow, you are nice! And ok, again, I feel super dumb, but when I drag the retroarch.cfg file into the text area it takes me to a screen with the entire file, but there are no options to save or actually paste it. All I can do is go back in my browser. How do I paste it?

Dont drag the file, just open your file on your computer and copy the contents. So, select all the contents and choose "Copy".
Then "paste" into the box on pastebin.com

@Floob Ok, I got it! Here is the link to the all systems .cfg file:

Here is one for the PSX (I think my problem is with every system though):

                  Thanks for all your help!

                    Are you using RetroPie 4?
It looks like you have updated some keys for the keyboard in your /all/retroarch.cfg file.
                    The defaults should be:
                    http://pastebin.com/raw/WrvnD9Gh

You can copy that to your file to test.

But it may well be the controller file that is having issues, can you post that on pastebin?
                    It should be in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/

                    This will also help:
