Retropie 4.6 on the Pi3B+

Hi all, quick question for those in the know.

Are there any gains from an emulation POV to upgrading to 4.6 on the older Pi3B+? I currently have mine set up nicely with 4.5, but I'd be willing to cut my way through the whole upgrade process if there are some real terms gains for things like N64 for example. I'm obviously not expecting miracles on the old faithful, but it's a big task to upgrade my install if there's no real actual point to it. It's just that it looks like the focus is on the Pi4 now, and I don't have that yet so I'm curious. Many thanks.

I am running the 4.6 version on a Pi3B and Pi3B+, so far, i haven't noticed any difference in performance from 4.5 version. I dont know about N64 , i am using only snes, nes, scummvm, psx, mastersystem, megadrive, gba, gb, gbc, nds emulators .

Thanks for replying. I'd already checked out the changelog but was more interested in folks' actual usage impressions.

I suppose ultimately I'll have to get myself a Pi4 for genuine improvements, but the Pi3B+ has been so fantastic I don't want to move it on yet. Plus, Retroflag haven't made a good retro inspired case for the Pi4 yet! My Mega Pi still rocks the living room!

The 4.5 based installations will be eventually un-supported, since they're based on Raspbian Strech.

Raspbian Stretch is no longer supported by Raspberry Pi Trading Ltd. We will continue to support Stretch for a while longer, but will likely stop updating binaries for it later this year.

It being supported or not isn't so much of a problem as I tend to get things how I like them and then it's done. I don't do any other updates usually unless there's a compelling reason to, and it's no longer connected to the net. Which is why I asked about genuine real terms gains from an emulation POV. Thanks all.

Sorry for major bump, but just wanted to say that despite several months between posts, I finally managed to update my install completely to version 4.6.9 and I would say yes it does seem to have improved a bit. I reduced my N64 stuff and completely removed Dreamcast though, as lets be honest you aren't going to get much joy on that front on a Pi3B+. But the couple of dozen N64 games I do have seem to run a lot better than they did on previous installs with only a small margin of tweaking and my usual slight GPU overclock, and I notice the standalone GlideN64 is definitely improved. Very pleased, and worth it for pi3B+ diehards imho.
