Hi All, I have been using Retropie for over 2 years now and I'm having a problem that keeps returning. I have spent houres and houres trying to fix this but limited en no permanent results. I was hoping someone can help me through this.

I have a Raspberry Pi Model 3. (All info is below)

I used to have Jessie installed and my wifi connection would suddenly fail. I would get the massage : No wlan0 interface detected. After trying numerous fixes on the net I would get it to work again but now it's down constantly after I upgrade to Retropie 4.6 (buster)

Tried a fresh install with a new sd card but still I get the same error. You would think It's a hardware issue but when I got this error earlier I got to fix it with a code through the console :
      sudo wpa_supplicant -Dwext -iwlan0 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
      sudo systemctl enable wpa_supplicant.service

      But this doens't work anymore.

If I try to connect to the wifi in the config menu I get : No wlan0 interface detected.
I tried setting the country but then again I get the same message.

I am currently on the latest release (buster) with Retropie 4.6.

      Pi Model or other hardware: (B, B+, 2 B, 3, X86 PC etc..) : Raspberry Pi 3
      Power Supply used: gooboy Model no. 71889 output : 5V - 2.5A
RetroPie Version Used (eg 3.6, 3.8.1, 4.1 - do not write latest): 4.6
Built From: (Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website : retropie-buster-4.6-rpi2_rpi3.img
USB Devices connected: USB keyboard, USB drive (ROMS and art)
Controller used: 2x zero delay usb joystick
Error messages received: No wlan0 interface detected
      Verbose log (if relevant): ?
Guide used: (Mention if you followed a guide)
File: (File with issue - with FULL path)
Emulator: (Name of emulator - if applicable)
Attachment of config files: (PLEASE USE PASTEBIN.COM FOR LARGE LOGS)
How to replicate the problem: Trying to connect to a wifi network

I can't paste any logs cause my Pi will not connect to my network anymore so. If someone can explain how to, that would be nice.

Did you set your the Country first ? I think it's required since Raspbian Stretch in order to use the Wi Fi.

@Reignman sounds like a hardware issue. Do you get the same behaviour off a standard Raspbian install?

@markyh444 Yes also of a fresh install. So that's what I'm afraid for that's it's hardware related. Although I don't understand why this was in the past also but back then I got it working again temporary ...

Can you run dmesg, taken after a cold boot, and post it on pastebin.com ?

@Reignman Save it on the boot partition.

                    dmesg | sudo tee /boot/dmesg.txt

Then take the sdcard out of the Pi and read the file from your PC.

I'm running into the same issue. Here's a dmesg from fresh boot.

                        dmesg

@undrwater Please don't hijack a topic - start a new topic. You're running a Raspberry Pi2 - which doesn't have built in wifi btw. So you need a dongle.

Wow. Talk about assumptions. I would have sworn I was using the Pi 3. Thanks for the heads up!

Doesn't seem to be anything Wi-Fi related (Bluetooth included). Maybe they're blocked ? Can you run

                                  sudo rfkill list all

and post the output ? Does it detect any Wifi interfaces ?
Did you disable the Wifi/Bt via config.txt on your Pi ?

It's most likely a hardware failure.
Just to be sure there's nothing disabled, post your config.txt.
