[ES Theme] VectorPie (16:9)

Hi! I really love your theme! It's really clean and thought out. I have a pi4 and about 40 systems and everything works great!
I was trying to generate matching launching images with the autogenerator script, but it failed to do so (something about missing fonts, iirc).
So right now I use the carbon theme for launching image generation, but I'd really like to have some better matching ones...
Do you have any idea how to do so?
-
@ecto Thank you! I'm really glad to hear it.
As for the launch images, I'm sorry but no. I can't think of a reason why the generator would be looking for a font that isn't there. But I think if there's someone that can help, it would likely be mitu. Or you could try posing it as a general question to the community.

One more small suggestion: the "white text on bright yellow" of the 3DO game description box can be a bit hard to read. Making the yellow a bit darker would make the text much easier on the eyes.
(Don't mind the different logo, that's just something I changed myself since I prefer the REAL logo to the standard 3DO logo.)
-
@SeraphisCain Yup, thanks for finding and pointing that out. Definitely need to fix it.
-
@Zachariel Not sure how I didn't notice before, but the Capcom category has the same issue (and probably the CPS1/2/3 categories as well, but I can't say for sure there since I don't use them).
EDIT: Went through all the categories I use, and aside from the previously mentioned Capcom categories, Amiga, GBC, Intellivision, MSX, NGPC, and SNES all have game description boxes with white text on a light/bright background that would be improved by changing the text to black.
-
@SeraphisCain Yeah, as I was going through all of the themes originally I deemed all of those perfectly legible, not really having another set-up to test them on. The 3DO was obvious, and you can see that I did attempt to change it, but accidentally changed the console description text instead of the game description. I'm glad to have input from other's with varying displays, I do appreciate the help in making my theme better. This especially is a quick and easy fix. I'll probably make those changes by tomorrow, and please feel free to let me know what you think.
-
@Zachariel I'm glad to be able to help! Like I said in my first post in this thread, this is probably the best theme I've ever used. I was never really able to settle on a theme I truly liked before this one. And I'm really thankful for all the extra work you've put in based on my feedback!
As for the text changes, I've actually gone ahead and implemented them myself on my system. After checking out the Github and seeing exactly how you did it for the 3DO, it was a pretty simple matter to do the same thing for the other categories I use that needed it. And they all look great! The black text is much more legible.
-
@SeraphisCain Im very glad to hear how much you enjoy it and I'm always happy to try and make it better. I've made all the changes that you suggested and am always on the lookout for more!
-
@Zachariel Here's one more small suggestion/request: Could you take another look at the system image for the PC Engine CD? I like the filter effect you used on the images, but it's really strong on the PCE CD, so much so that most of the details are kinda smudged out. Like, it's noticeable even when compared to other systems in the theme. I wouldn't say it's a problem that's in dire need of fixing or anything, really it's more of a personal request since the PCE CD is one of my favorite systems of all time, from a design standpoint. And if you think the image looks fine, please feel free to completely disregard this. Like I said, it's not really that big of a deal.
On, and one other thing that I just remembered while typing this post up (lol): The help text at the bottom of the screen for a few of the sub-menus in ES isn't in the 8-bit font, specifically the "Game Collection Settings" and "Configure Input" sub-menus, and also in the "Quit" sub-menu when ES asks if you really want to restart/quit. EDIT: Also the text for the Scraper > Scrape Now sub-menu.
-
@SeraphisCain Sure I'll take a look at it. I think what happened was that despite my best efforts I couldn't find a decent quality starting image for the PCE CD. I will take a look though, and if you happen to find one that fits the "format" please let me know.
I'm not completely sure, but I believe that the help bar under the system type menus is unchangeable simply through a theme. I'd be happy to learn otherwise though.

@mattrixk Thank you, sir. I'm a big fan of MetaPixel and Spare as well. I have both.
Aww shucks, you'll make me blush!
-
@SeraphisCain I did, once again, attempt to find a decent quality image for the PCE CD but had no luck. If you happen to find one, let me know!
-
@Zachariel Yeah, I've spent some time looking myself and haven't been able to find anything either. Ah well!
If I ever do find one though, I'll be sure to let you know.
-
@Zachariel Hey, it's been a while so I'm not sure if you're still checking this thread, but if so, any chance you could add the Neo Geo CD? I've got a handful of NGCD games that are currently lumped in with my normal NG games that I'd like to split off into their own category.
-
@SeraphisCain Sure, glad to. Always glad to improve the theme and cover more systems! I'll probably be adding it in the next couple of days.
I also got curious and checked the Retropie website's themes list and now I'm wondering how I get my theme added to that list. Does anyone know?
-
@Zachariel Just modify the page and submit a PR to the RetroPie-Docs project.
-
@SeraphisCain I have updated the theme, NeoGeo CD should now be there. Let me know if there are any issues.
-
Hi, I'm still very happy with your theme! I made another system entry for PC98 (for which I just used another system as template and added the system image from the RetroPie docs) and that came out ok. Maybe you can think about adding pc98 at some point in the future? ;)
Another thing I noticed now, is that some text ist barely readable. This occurs when using subdirectories for systems with a bright background (from the top of my head: Amiga, Arcade and especially the custom collections). Where can I change the textcolor for subfolders?
-
@Zachariel Thanks, I appreciate it! I'll let you know if there's any issues.

@ecto Have you tried updating the theme? I had the same issue some months back and Zachariel updated the theme and fixed the text colors on several affected categories (I know Amiga in particular was one of them).
EDIT: @Zachariel, the Neo-Geo CD logo has the same issue the PlayStation logo used to have, where it fades into the background completely during transitions since it's all black. I edited it in Inkscape, changing it to 80% black, and it looks a lot better. Though, the D in "CD" didn't quite take to the recoloring for whatever reason, and looks a bit...off. It's not a big deal for me, but perhaps you can make it work where I couldn't.

Yeah, I tried that. I know that the textcolor of the rom names is ok. It's just the textcolor of the subdirectories that are not readable. I'm using subdirectories to sort the roms into categories (such as Action, RPG, Adventure, Sports, etv.). As soon as I change into one of those subdirectories/categories, the text of the roms names is perfectly readable.
