Could "Retropie" Replace my Media Player Box

on Unbuntu terminal how do i get to the retropie main directory
like for example if i wanted to install openbor , i would need to
Enter SSH terminal and type follwing text to choose following versions:
1.1 To restore original OpenBOR script:wget http://raw.githubusercontent.com/crcerror/OpenBOR-63xx-RetroPie-openbeta/master/scriptmodules/openbor-6xxx.sh -O- | tr -d '\r' > /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/scriptmodules/ports/openbor-6xxx.sh
how would i do that ?

@escc1986 I’ve barely used retropie on a pc, but if it’s anything close to the raspberry pi branch, (it should be) you go to retropie setup in the retropie menu and install Emulators and apps, like kodi and open BOR, from there. The scripts there automatically configure use for emulation station and what not. No need to manually install them from the terminal.

thank you for the help
im kind of confused ... i need to edit a file ... could you help me
To use this you need to edit:
/home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/scriptmodules/libretrocores/lr-pcsx-rearmed.shChange the section to be like this:
function sources_lr-pcsx-rearmed() {
gitPullOrClone "$md_build" https://github.com/SindenLightgun/pcsx_rearmed.git

If your pc is powerful enough. Most Modern PCs will run wii/GameCube (same emulator) pretty well

Hi Clyde
I'm installing Lubuntu now
So I just deleted the hard drive that had ubuntu ... I Decided to Try your Recommendation due to my ubuntu kept freezes and it seemed like it Ate up all my RAM quick when I would run 1 prorgam , when I would run VLC then open another Program it would freeze ... I have at least 2 GB of RAM and it was weird that it would freeze .
I have a question
Can you do everything the same in Lubuntu as to Ubuntu ?
-
@escc1986 I think so. All *buntus use the same software repositories, only their pre-installed software and configuration differs. For example, if VLC doesn't come pre-installed on Lubuntu, you can easily install it afterwards via the package managers Discover and Muon.
That said, there may be rare cases where some configuration or system components may be so different in one Ubuntu variant that a particular feature isn't available on it, but that shouldn't be an issue in most use cases.

Been tryIng for hours now and no luck with the installation with Lubuntu
I'm just going to install windows 10
I guess my best media player set will be Windows 10 with VLC player for now
I guess I'm going to need to buy an extra sd card in time to try something on the Pi 2
I appreciate all the help and advice
Thank you guys

@escc1986 Just use what fits you best. I wish you success. o/

Thanks Clyde , I Appreciate the Encouragement and nice words and thank you for all the help and replies , means a lot
Yeah win 10 is treating us well for the media purposes and gets the job done :D
It's weird same computer I use for the set up says I have 4GB of RAm ... just wondering how come Ubuntu was freezing so much .... win 10 seems to be running so smooth and perfect .... not sure why 🤔

@escc1986 That may very much depend of the hardware and drivers. Although Ubuntu/Linux does support way more hardware than any single Windows version, because it leaves older devices behind more rarely, newer and special hardware is often (much) better supported on an up-to-date Windows, because the hardware vendors are more eager to support an OS with ~90% desktop market share than one with ~1-2½.
That said, there may be solutions for your problems, if you ever want to pursue that path again. But I would recommend a forum for Ubuntu or Linux in general for this rather than this specialised retrogaming forum.
