Pi 4: Video Tearing In MK2 and NBA Jam TE - Sound Sync Culprit
-
Pi Model or other hardware: Pi 4 2GB
Power Supply used: Canakit
RetroPie Version Used: 4.6
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website
USB Devices connected: Add'l bluetooth adapter
Controller used: Ultimarc BlueHID
A/V: Composite cableMortal Kombat 2 and NBA Jam TE have screen tearing. Problem dissappears completely when I disable Synchronization under the Sound menu (or disable sound altogether), although this obviously results in poor sound. Happens using both lr-fbneo and lr-mame2003. Also tried disabling the DCS hack, no help. Using composite. Happens at both 240p and 480i.
No problems at all in other games like SF2, Neo-Geo, TMNT, etc.
Do these games work for other Pi 4 users?

@TonyXL probably because you are running them on a 60Hz screen ? those are 54.7Hz games, if you disable audio sync they'll run "as fast as possible", meaning they'll probably sync to your screen's native refresh rate, hence why the tearing disappears. afaik some kind of tearing is unavoidable (without proper equipment) when content and screen refresh rate differ.

Since you a have a Pi4, try to use Mame2016 on Midway games. You are using analog stuff though so idk if that will help.

I don't get tearing in 1024x768 on lr-mame2010 with MK2. Not that I can see.

Thanks everyone.
MK2 indeed worked better in lr-mame2010. Not quite as smooth as 2003 or 2016 with sound sync off (only noticable on the scrolling "tree" fighter lineup and the "insert coin to continue" slide-in... actual gameplay is great).
NBA Jam TE worked perfect in 2010.
