Hi, I am new with Raspberry and Retropie as well.
Week ago I downloaded latest Retropie (Pi 4 4GB) and I got two 8bitdo N30 Pro 2 controllers.
First controller is paired and working well. Second controller is not connecting at all. When I am trying to pair following happens:

      1. Device found(always the same and unique MAC address)
      2. DisplayYesNo -> "Device already exists"
Each controller has different MAC which is always the same, but even if I am able to find the second controller, it always shows me issue with, that "Device already exists" and I cannot pair it anyhow.

(I already tried with starting second 8bitdo in "x" mode without any success).

@Lukegrm The onboard bluetooth can only support 1 controller. You gotta buy a bluetooth dongle. 8bitdo sells a bluetooth dongle that is pretty good, I have it it works. There could be better ones on the market too.

That's not true - where did you hear that ?

I'm just going off personal experience when I was using the pi3b+. I could be wrong but I could never sync 2 controllers at once. I had a powera switch controller and a ps3 controller and one would disconnect if I connected the other.

That would happen if you use the ps3controller driver, since it overrides the OS's Bluetooth stack and you'd be able to connect only PS3 controllers once enabled.

                Oh! Sorry for the misinformation.
Here I was thinking for 2 years I needed a dongle for 2 player....

Thanks both for replies. I am considering BT dongle as a last option if no other solution is found.
                  @mitu any idea please?

If both controllers have the same MAC, then I think that's the problem with connecting the 2nd one. Try updating their firmware to the latest version, if that doesn't make the devices unique, then try pairing 2nd one in a different mode (Switch maybe). They might have different MAC if using different pairing mode.

@mitu Each of them has different MAC address. So each one is unique, each one is visible as a different device on the list of the registered devices. 1st one is connected and working. 2nd one is visible when pairing and searching for new device, but no possibility to finish pairing.

                        So each one is unique

Sorry, I must have read that wrong.

EDIT: if you go into the Bluetooth menu and look at the paired devices, do you see one device or two ? Try clearing any connected bluetooth devices and re-pair them again.

@mitu I did remove all connected / paired devices several times. I did also reset ES_input file. Nothing worked. Always when I try to pair it, it gives me error message, that device is already registered. The same with udev.
