What hardware to get PS2 running
-
Hi all,
I would like to start a new project. I'm looking for something power enough (if exists) to run ps2, gamecube and wii games. I'm looking for a single board computer like the raspberry but with more power.
I'm watching some videos about Odroid boards. Do you know if some models can run that systems? What model do you suggest?
Thanks in advance. -

what about Odroid H2+? I saw a video on youtube that shows ps2 running on this board.

Odroid H2+ is basically a mini PC - it's a SBC with a Intel Celeron J4115. The GPU is integrated, so PS2 performance might not be so great. You might as well try to find a mini PC with more room to breathe and a better GPU.

that's a PC, and a very low end, i don't think you can play ps2 on this, or maybe with a lot of frameskip

Thanks for your replies. I’ll give a look. Do you have any suggestion? Could Ryzen 5 do the job?

@pscotto1234 there are several MINI-PCs on the market.
I am pretty impressed by the Intel NUCs, they even look good.
They are not cheap indeed ($750 - $1000), but you get a lot of performance on a small space for that money. -
Ok. I look for something cheaper. In this case I think that PS2 emulation can wait.

Even wii might be far fetched with a single board computer tbh. Is the single board thingy really required ? If not you can probably build a pretty nice emulation pc for pretty cheap, based on cheapest 3+ Ghz cpu you can find and some low/mid-end nvidia gpu (i recommend any model number finished by 50, since they usually have the best performance/price ratio of their generation).
NB : cheapest device to emulate wii/gamecube is probably the wii u

My idea was to emulate PS2. If it is not possible with cheap solution I'll wait for capable and affordable HW.

For the complicated option (I have not tried this btw :) get one of those backwards compatible PS3s and make it dual bootable with Linux, run PS2 games on the straight ps os and maybe other emu's on the Linux boot?
:) I see youtube videos of people doing some of that but don't really know if the whole thing is possible. Might be fun to look into though if you have too much time?
edit: and maybe you could try to find an broken PS2 to just use the enclosure, take apart the PS3 and fit it into the PS2 shell. Voila! A PS2 made out of a ps3! :)
