      Hi everyone.

I'm thinking of building a tabletop arcade and I want to just add arcade versions to it, no NES, no PSX, and so on.

First of all I don't really know which mame version to download, I'm on a raspberry pi 4, don't get me wrong, I'm aware that each version has a different performance depending on the games and all of that, and maybe I should just download as many mame versions as I can, but just to know which one has a better performance.

Then the games I have my doubts on if they're gonna work are: Tekken Tag Tournament, which I read runs on a Namco System 12, which is the same one as Tekken 3 and as I understood uses the same hardware as a PSX.
Soul Calibur for the same reason.
Die Hard Arcade aka Dynamite Deka, which probably won't work because it worked on ST-V, based on Sega Saturn.
      Marvel vs Capcom 2

I hope I made myself clear, thank you for your help.

PSX is based on System 11

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Namco_System_11

System 12 is an upgraded version of System 11 and is different hardware.

        Soul Calibur Arcade ? nope

Soul Calibur on Dreamcast ... absolutely, and it runs Great ! and is beyond arcade perfect.

Having Arcade versions "only" will omit any favourite games you have completely ... it's a bummer

I love Virtua Racing ... Arcade Version plays perfect on my PC, but will not on the Raspberry PI 4 regardless of which emulator used.

So, have to make do with the Sega Magadrive, Sega 32X and Sega Saturn versions ... which the Pi 4 can run ... better than nothing, i suppose :/

@ReadyPlayaWon And I'd add that Saturn is still iffy to run at this point. Dynamite Cop on Saturn does not run well on my OC Pi 4.
Out of the range of arcade games available on the platform OP's games are some of the trickiest to emulate at this point.
There are excellent versions of Soulcalibur and Tekken on other platforms however, and the Dreamcast has the sequel to Die Hard Arcade.

Oh okay thank you! I wanted to keep it as retro as possible, with the insert coin stuff and all of that, but well at least all of them have console versions...
@ReadyPlayaWon so System 12 doesn't work either right? TTT is one of my favourite fighting games, but I don't mind playing Tekken 3, it's a masterpiece too.
@Zering I've seen some videos of Dynamite Cop, but having the Nakatomi plaza and all the logos is what strikes me the most, still I'll give it a try, it seems fun too

@Rubicai You might be interested to know that the pi 4 does run NAOMI 1 and Atomiswave pretty much flawlessly.

@Rubicai No worries. You may also want to consider PSP emulation. Metal Slug 6 supposedly runs better on PSP than on Atomiswave, and while I've never managed to run Gradius IV through MAME I did manage to play it for some time on the PSP Gradius Collection. There may be other examples.

@Zering But with a PSP emulator I can't play coop right?

@Rubicai That's a good question. I'm not sure. Hopefully someone else is.

True, but there are a few personal favorite games of mine that run really good (using lr-yabasanshiro)

Panzer Dragoon Zwei , Shinobi X, Magical Nights Cotton 2, Golden Axe: The Duel, Nights Into Dreams, Saturn Bomberman

Virtua Racing, Sega Rally Championship, Daytona USA CE run fairly good too ...

@ReadyPlayaWon How on earth did you get Nights to run well? It was choppy as all hell on lr-yabasanshiro when I last tried.
Panzer Dragoon Zwei also dips pretty hard at times.

Yep, PSP has no slowdown ... Atomiswave at 1st plays great until you meet the 1st Boss and then it's slowdown city. The PSP version does not slow down at the 1st Boss or any other Bosses.

With a lot of experimenting and testing :)

I have both games running really good and not choppy at all .. even at 2x Resolution

Panzer Dragoon Zwei ... only played to Level 3, no dips so far :)

                              Using 1.8.5 - YabaSanshiro (v3.3.1 73c6766)

@ReadyPlayaWon Panzer Dragoon Zwei dips hard in level 3.

Are you going to share your settings for nights? ^^

I agree on most of these, but Virtua Racing is a no-go for me. Sega Rally has some glitches but does work. VR is mad, I just see a blue sky when I start a race and it just stays there until Game Over (which doesn't take long).

Edit: I thought Sega Rally was okay, but actually it is almost unplayable - too slow, choppy sound.

And in the meantime I've tried just about every possible setting in lr-yabasanshiro and Nights is still choppy. It's not far from being playable, but it's not playable currently (much like Panzer Dragoon Saga).
