Cannot run SD Snatcher, MSX2 [SOLVED]

@Zering said in Cannot run SD Snatcher, MSX2:
Does anybody else have any ideas? Lr-bluemsx clearly seems like it should be able to emulate the SCC cartridge needed to run my version of SD Snatcher, but it still doesn't work.
Edit: I got the game to work! I had to use a pre patched rom. Still impossible to use the SCC but it's running fine on lr-bluemsx with PSG sound. Thanks @mitu for trying to help.
I get the MSX splash screen and then "Insert Sound Cartridge" also. Was the answer just using a different ROM or was there something else you did to get round that on lr-bluemsx? Thank you.
I am using a pre-patched Project Melancholia ROM.

This should be relevant :
http://www.msxblue.com/manual/commandlineargs_c.htm
http://www.msxblue.com/manual/rommappers_c.htmPerhaps we can add something in the commandline.
As alternative for the special cartridge menu. -
@AdamBeGood There are three melancholia patches, two with SCC and one without.
The one without works just fine but the music is a real letdown.I'm not sure how that would work, Folly, I'm not particularly skilled with that sort of thing.
On the other hand if either of you knew how to wade through the BASIC menu in lr-fmsx, I could try to see, in the meanwhile, if either version of the game works.

SCC works in openMSX by adding Hardware/extensions/Konami RA-011 ......
Here we can test our disks, if they work with differen SCC options. -
@Folly Does that extension work while using a c-bios?
Openmsx opens up a new problem though. Can we map joysticks in that emulator?
Edit : Openmsx still won't run .dsk on my end. I'm still trying to work it out.

Yes, I think so. But C-BIOS will not let you run DSK files.
Openmsx opens up a new problem though. Can we map joysticks in that emulator?
Did that a very long time ago, I think it's possible.
I'm preffering lr-bluemsx if it works. But openMSX is better in a lot more things.
OpenMSX can be used for testing our disks. Here we can find out with which SCC they will work. -
@Folly Yeah I only remembered that about C-Bios after I posted.
It also occurred to me that the issue with lr-fmsx might be the same. It only boots me to a BASIC prompt when I try to play a .dsk file, but they are few and far between so I never really noticed the issue before.
Edit : lr-fmsx would be my preference because of how easy it is to set up joystick controls.
However, at the end of the day, I'll go with whatever works.
I can't help with the testing of SCC as I can't get openmsx to work.
However if you guys want to try and sort this issue I'm very happy to help any other way that I am able. -

The keyboard mapping in any lr cores should be easy if you use this trick so that shouldn't be a problem. Obviously doesn't solve the SCC issue though
-
@retropieuser555 I've tried following the instructions in this thread, with no luck. However I haven't tried using xboxdrv, how does that work?

.dsk and .m3u don't work on OpenMSX for me, although .roms do.
-
@AdamBeGood my understanding was that it is included, but that it doesn't work.

Yep, sorry, my mistake.
I am glad to be able to play the game, even if the music isn't what it could be. Thanks for starting the thread and giving me the kick I needed.
-
@AdamBeGood No worries at all. I'm playing through Soul Reaver, but once I'm done I'm starting SD Snatcher, fix or not. We could discuss the game as we go?
The MSX library seems chock full of gems like that. Six out kf eight disks of Illusion city for the turbo R have been translated and I hear that is also an incredible sci fi RPG.
-
@Zering It's a system I haven't really looked at before, I only downloaded it as Vampire Killer was on there and I'm a Castlevania fan!
Let me know when you start SD Snatcher. Soul Reaver is on my list too.
I finished Ecstatica on PC yesterday, 26 years after my first attempt.

For those who want to try it with openMSX with the machine "Boosted_MSX2_EN" here are the BIOS requirements in "/home/pi/.openMSX/share/systemroms" :

@Folly i will try this later today and let you know if I can make it work! Thanks!
@AdamBeGood I'll let you know. I'm enjoying Soul Reaver so far although I hated Blood Omen. It reminds me of Shadowman, one of my favourite games from the period.
Did you look at the original metal gear games on MSX? The first one is good. -

Will this resolve the sound issue? Sorry for being ignorant here.
@Zering I've not bothered getting hold of Blood Omen, but Soul Reaver is sitting on my PS Classic ready to go. I have Shadowman to play on Dreamcast also. I've got the Metal Gear games on MSX, but haven't played them. So little time, so many games!
-
@AdamBeGood If you play Soul Reaver, play the Dreamcast version. It's much improved! Shadowman is also best on Dreamcast, avoid the PS1 version at all costs.
If we can get openmsx to boot SD Snatcher, then we should be able to use the SCC.

No, this is for those who want to get openMSX running with original bios files(no c-bios), so they can run DSK files.
If you already have those bios files for openMSX, sound will work as described earlier.SCC for SD Snatcher works in openMSX by adding (via menu)
Hardware/extensions/Konami RA-011 ......
