      Hi everyone,
I've got my Pi setup and running MAME perfectly.
I have one of these from my PS1 days...

      arcade.jpg

It has the PS1 controller connection which pre-dates USB.

You can get cheap PS1 to USB adapters on Amazon, but they tend to say you need to install a windows driver first to get them to work.

Does anyone know if these will work on a RetroPie build, if drivers are available, etc?

You could put a raspberry pi IN that controller and just have HDMI coming out. Maybe USBs on the side for two player connection.

Well good news. Got a cheap Ostent adapter on Amazon, rebooted the Pi, and it detected it straight off. Working great in MAME!

(Quite like your idea of opening it up and putting a Pi inside it to have a portable arcade machine :) )
