      @mitu

Well, I see a red line through retropie and a red line through runcommand-onstart.sh those are the only mistakes that I see.

@pisces3988 What red lines? The runcommand-onstart.sh is just a plain text file that should't have any colour codes or the like. How do you display the file on your machine?

However, I think you really should upload your runcommand-onstart.sh to https://pastebin.com/ like @mitu suggested before. It's very hard for us to tell if or what is wrong with it just from your own descriptions.

Well the other person earlier to me to use a different command on the terminal, then they told me to use pastebin to check for errors that's what happened.

The command the other person told me is

            cat /dev/shm/runcommand.log

Do you know how to guide me with this command?

I told you to check for any differences in your runcommand-onstart.sh file to the commands posted in the topic starter, not to use pastebin.com to check for errors. The cat /dev/shm/runcommand.logs showed you have some errors in the .sh file. As @Clyde said - and I also suggested in my previous post - upload the file to pastebin.com so we could see what it contains exactly.

@pisces3988 In addition to what @mitu said, if your /opt/retropie/configs/all/runcommand-onstart.sh isn't longer than the 16 lines the instructions told you to add to this file, you could just post its contents here in a code block instead of uploading it to pastebin.com.

This is a code block. You cane make one by clicking on the button named "code" with the symbol </> in the forum's editor.

Just in the case that you have problems with the upload to pastebin.com. We only need to see the contents of your runcommand-onstart.sh in some way.

I already did in my example code block:

This is a code block. You cane make one by clicking on the button named "code" with the symbol </> in the forum's editor.

No, this is your runcommand.log. To display your runcommand-onstart.sh, use this command:

                        cat /opt/retropie/configs/all/runcommand-onstart.sh

@pisces3988 No, the code block is a formatting option in this forum. It makes quoted program outputs much more readible.

                            Example without a code block:

                            pi@retropie:~ $ cat /dev/shm/runcommand.log
                            /opt/retropie/configs/all/runcommand-onstart.sh: line 7: /home/pi/RetroPie/video loadingscreens/: Is a directory
                            Parameters:
                            Executing: /opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/bin/retroarch -L /opt/retropie/libr etrocores/lr-mame2003/mame2003_libretro.so --config /opt/retropie/configs/mame-l ibretro/retroarch.cfg "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/1941j.zip" --appendc onfig /dev/shm/retroarch.cfg
                            pi@retropie:~ $ /opt/retropie/configs/all/runcommand-onstart.sh: line 7: /home/p i/RetroPie/videoloadingscreens/: Is a directory
-bash: /opt/retropie/configs/all/runcommand-onstart.sh:: No such file or directo ry

And the same text in a code block:

                            pi@retropie:~ $ cat /dev/shm/runcommand.log
                            /opt/retropie/configs/all/runcommand-onstart.sh: line 7: /home/pi/RetroPie/video loadingscreens/: Is a directory
                            Parameters:
                            Executing: /opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/bin/retroarch -L /opt/retropie/libr etrocores/lr-mame2003/mame2003_libretro.so --config /opt/retropie/configs/mame-l ibretro/retroarch.cfg "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/1941j.zip" --appendc onfig /dev/shm/retroarch.cfg
                            pi@retropie:~ $ /opt/retropie/configs/all/runcommand-onstart.sh: line 7: /home/p i/RetroPie/videoloadingscreens/: Is a directory
-bash: /opt/retropie/configs/all/runcommand-onstart.sh:: No such file or directo ry

The latter is much more readible. So just copy the contents of your runcommand-onstart.sh in your forum post in a code block.

It's bedtime now in my part of the world. See you tommorow.

I really don't have a clear understanding of what I'm doing with all these different commands, just to get videoloadingscreens to work.

Adding some text to a file doesn't require programming/coding experience. The topic starter explains in detail how to do that, just editing a file.

Please check the contents of the /opt/retropie/configs/all/runcommand-onstart.sh file - open it in an editor, like you did when following the installation instructions - and post its contents here, surrounded by a block delimiters (three backticks - ```).
