Dreamcast issues

I’m a complete noob here so be patient. I’ve loaded reicast and updated and I see the system in the menu. I’ve loaded some roms into the directory and have rebooted ES. All I see in the menu is +START REICAST. When I select this all I get is a screen with GAMES, Filter, Settings, Join our discord server and Dreamcast BIOS. No games or save menu like you’d see when booting up a real Dreamcast. I have bios loaded. I have games loaded. What am I doing wrong? Thank you for any help. I have a pi 4 4GB in a nespi retroflag case. Using version 4.7.

Mods are gonna ask you to provide more additional information about your setup as documented in the link below.

Personally speaking ...
If you're using a Raspberry Pi 3 then forget about decent or playable Dreamcast emulation.
I'm very happy i upgraded to a Raspberry Pi 4 and using the Redream Emulator for Dreamcast ... it's great !
Flycast is ok too for Dreamcast ... but it's really good for Sega NAOMI and Sammy Atomiswave games

@dreamcastkid thanks. I have a Pi4 4GB in a nespi retroflag case. I’m not seeing the other Dreamcast emulators but I’ll look closer soon. Should I remove reicast completely? Then add the new emulators? Or is it fine to leave it as an option? Thanks for everything.

@awe3 Yea this is really strange. If you have the roms in the dreamcast folder that should show up for sure when you open ES. What file type are you Roms?

@dreamcastkid hey question: how do I install Redream on a pi4? I can't seem to find it in retropie setup

Retropie Setup > Manage Packages > Manage Experimental Packages
Flycast (which replaces Reicast) is found in the Optional Packages
Scroll down to ... 222 lr-flycast

Yeah, i would remove it .. because after you try Redream or Flycast you'll never use Reicast again :)
Plus .. Reicast has issues. Have a quick read of the link below

@dreamcastkid I did remove it. I also had to change my rom file names to .cdi. Everything seems to be working now. Now my issue is getting Saturn to run lol. I know this one has lots of issues but I do have the menu up and running with the space ship and background. Now just trying to get the roms up and running. Thanks for everything.
-
@minimanzer0 I had to change the file names with the extension .cdi. that seemed to fix it.

Glad you got it working.
Personally, i've compressed all my Dreamcast games from .gdi (not to be confused with .cdi) to .chd and the work fine and saves a ton disk space !
example: compare these chd sizes with you cdi's

@dreamcastkid I spoke too soon. I’m only seeing the menu. When I click play it says disc not inserted. Back to the drawing board.

sounds like you haven't installed Redream or Flycast yet ... forget about trying to use Reicast.
-
@dreamcastkid I loaded both and removed reicast. I’ll try and remove everything and start over.

And make sure you are not trying to play a Dreamcast WINCE game ... because they won't work in any Dreamcast Emulator in the Raspberry Pi.
