usbromservice: games vanished?
-
I followed the automatic mount instructions here: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Running-ROMs-from-a-USB-drive/
However, I cannot find where my games went. I had 50GB of games and now under 1GB remains on the SD and under 1GB on the USB. The USB drive is 256GB which I verified and it is properly formatted. I do understand it could take a while, is there a log I should check to ensure the copy process is running? Oddly enough, I see subfolders of mine on the USB but many are empty.
Where did they go, what happened?
Pi Model or other hardware: RASPBERRY PI 4 MODEL B, 4GB
Power Supply used: 5.1V, 3A USB-C PSU
RetroPie Version Used: 4.7.11
Built From: Premade SD image on official website
USB Devices connected: Bluetooth receiver, USB controller, USB storage
How to replicate the problem: Followed automatic mount instructions. -
@zenoxio automatic mount just maps the content of what’s on your USB to your pi. if you’ve got 1GB remaining on your USB then clearly it has data(games) on it. are you saying the games you see on the stick don’t add up to the sum of data that is consumed?
also note the docs says that it will copy the contents of the SD onto the USB so if you had a well stocked SD card it will take a long time to copy all that across. after that no copying happens - your pi will just use the USB to access games.

@dankcushions Sorry, I meant 1GB of games exist on the SD and USB now. It was 50GB before and now it is at 1GB which means games are missing.
Yes, I understand it is meant to copy the games. That is what I am referring to. I had 50GB of games and now it is 1GB of games after I plugged in the USB. Where did my games go?

@zenoxio nothing is usb service moves or deletes games from the drive, so they either weren't there, or something else. did you follow the automatic method or manual? how are you accessing the drive to see what is on it? can you show us what you're seeing?
-
@dankcushions They are gone from the SD card. They were there originally, 50GB of games. And now it's gone after doing the automatic method. They are not on the USB drive either. Not sure where are they are... (Thanks for the quick replies btw!)
Sure, here is what I am seeing: https://pastebin.com/Tana7pkx
You can see in here that /dev/root indicates 54GB space used which was mostly the games, however they no longer exist in any roms directory I can find.
Note that I did some work last night and it's at 3GB. But the issue is that there were 50GB of games before I attempted the automatic method. Now there are 3GB of games. Where did the 45GB+ of games go? I check the file size count on the USB and it is not increasing, which seems to suggest the copy is not ongoing. But they are not in the original location (SD card) either.

@zenoxio Both your
du
commands show the same thing - the games on the USB. To see what's actually on the SD card, remove the USB (with the PI stopped), then boot again and rundu
to see how much space has the ROMs folder on the sdcard. -
@mitu Thanks! Interesting, okay so they're all still there on the SD card.
I've waited at least 24 hours since followed the automatic mount instructions and I don't see any new games on the USB drive. It's still about 1-3GB out of 50GB of data on the USB drive.
So I guess the auto copy isn't happening? I did try rebooting.

Doesn't sound like it. If the games are still there on the SD card, probably best just reformatting the USB drive and starting over?

The auto-copy works only the 1st time you insert the USB stick. As @sleve_mcdichael said, you may try starting again fresh and see if they're copied this time or just copy them manually.
-
@zenoxio if you rebooted the copying will stop. It only copies if the retropie-mount folder is empty.
