I'm noticing on all the psx games that they are very pixelated due to the larger screen size (compared with the 4:3 21" screen I used to have back in the day). Is it possible to shrink the screen for this emulator? Strangely other console emulators from that time look OK on the screen I'm using, maybe it's just the 3D stuff of that time doesn't stretch well.

@bizt go into the retroarch settings from the emulator. Back out until you see settings and select that. Then go to video, and then change the aspect ratio to either 4:3 or default. Then go back a couple menus and go to to
        Configuration, then save core overrides.
Another option if you wanted to keep the stretched out 16:9 image, it turning on Bilinear filtering in the same video menu, and then save the core overrides for that. The filter helps smooth out the chunkyness of ps1 games. Or do a combination of both

          see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Smaller-RetroArch-Screen/

although also note that you can improve psx fidelity via https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Playstation-1/#video-double-internal-resolution

and you may also want to try the new experimental playstation emulator lr-duckstation, which includes even more (and more reliable) graphical improvements.

and finally we have some shader/smoothing options documented here (though note they can result in performance issues, depending on your hardware, which you did not mention - please see https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first)
