Dreamcast ROMs suddenly not working, controls messed up and grey box before each game no longer appears.

Piboy DMG. Pi4.
Beginner user. Using the basic image the console comes with.Alright. Looks like the struggle continues. Just when I thought I had everything neatly arranged.
So yesterday I spent quite a while configuring the controls for all my installed Dreamcast games including the external wireless Madcatz controller (which uses a dongle).
I go to switch it on to check something today, and now no Dreamcast ROMs will load, the controls for all other emulators have been messed up, and the grey info box that comes up before each game loads (no matter the format) no longer appears, instead it just goes straight into every game (if it loads).A long shot I know, but does anyone have a clue what's happened? One minute everything's fine, I switch off the machine and never touch it til today, and now everything's gone haywire. 🤷🏻
As an aside, while configuring controls in the emulator (I think it's Redream), I also upped the display resolution output. But neither of these things effected it negatively at the time.
Many thanks.

Not sure what that entails - we don't support 3rd party images in the forums, we don't know how they are configured and what changes they include.

@mitu actually this device uses the base vanilla RetroPie image. The OP didn’t make that clear.

Changing the delay time for the ES/RA load screen suddenly doesn't seem to help anymore. (shrug)
I share some of your sentiment, however I also updated RetroArch to the latest stable version for Netplay purposes (on my 3B), so I thought that may have changed a default behavior.

That's why we ask for the info in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.
