Terrible graphics on 3.7 compared to 3.6?
-
So I started to use retropie 3.7 recently.
Started to play some marvel vs capcom on fba and noticed it looked a bit blocky. Wasn’t really sure because the last time I played would have been a while ago and that was on retropie 3.6. Anyway I loaded Sonic 2 and again, I just felt the graphics looked poor compared to what I could remember, loaded Mario world on the snes, same feeling...
So out of interest and to make sure I wasn’t going mad I fresh installed the old 3.6 image again, did nothing but add the above roms and when I played them they all looked much better than on 3.7.
I had previously messed around with a few things on 3.7 so just to check the downgraded graphics wasn’t due to anything I did I again formatted the sd and did a fresh install of 3.7. I moved the above roms over and wow, what a pixelated blocky mess compared to 3.6...
I really wanted to use 3.7, anyone have any similar experiences or ideas why I am getting downgraded graphics on stock install/settings with 3.7 compared to 3.6?

this is following https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/issues/1288 - the default smoothing effect was turned off after a user poll.
change video smoothing to true for all libretro emulators via https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Configuration-Editor
i think this is where @BuZz tells me "I told you so!" :)

Why should people do that?
-
because some people love performance, and old school pixel style graphics. Like me!
-
why not read the poll and find out? http://blog.petrockblock.com/forums/topic/poll-which-default-video-mode-do-you-prefer-video_smooth-on-or-off-2/

I would still go for video smooth off.
-
It's easy to switch using the configuration editor anyway.
-
I'd take blocky over blurry any day.

This was the first thing I noticed when I loaded 3.7 for the first time. I always go into retroarch to chance interlace to off. It was already off and I remember saying "oh, thank god!" lol thanks for that!
