Pi4 - My red status led remain "Consistently Lit" also after shutdown.. it's normal ?
-
I have a possibly found how it's maintain my Pi4 semi-turned on after the shutdown.
I have need to explain my situation.
My TV... a LG 49LF590V has only 2 port HDMI.
For connect my devices to him i have used a HDMI-Splitter (the latter does not have its own power supply).
I have used that configuration.
Italian Sky Q STB Decoder and this My Rasp Pi4 -> HDMI-Splitter -> HDMI Port 1 of my TV
My Second Raspberry... a Pi2 (osmc) -> HDMI Port 2 of my TVSaid this... after i do the SHUTDOWN and after the entire procedure it's completed i remove Pi4 Power Source from the wall and i can see my Pi4 goes in this state like semi-turned on.
At this point if i SWITCH the HDMI Input on the Splitter i can see literally my Pi4 turning off completely as always in fact.
How it's possible ? It's my actual HDMI-Splitter can interference whit the normally shutdown procedure ? Or it's my TV cause my Pi4 remain semi-turned on abnormally ?

As I said earlier, it may be back-fed from another source, which in this case is your TV.
-
Mitu: try unplugging everything. It may be getting power from the TV.
Dj: I disconnected everything except the TV but it didn't work. Do you think it's getting power from the TV?
Mitu: 🤦♂️ (probably)

I probably didn't explain the situation well... my bad certanly:
I have say i have found how it's cause the issue.... it's my actual HDMI-Switch.
I have tryed to remove my actual HDMI-swith and i have attached my Pi4 directly on tv.Shutdown retropie and turned off the pi4 power adapter...... Pi4 it's turned off immediatelly.
If not my TV the main cause of this issue i think.
if it was the TV that created the problem I should have the same trouble also whit and also whitout the hdmi-switch.
Now i know... it's the HDMI-Switch create this issue but how it's possible that the latter creates since it does not have its own power supply ?
I'm probably the one who can't explain it well the situation...... my bad english it's not usefull....

OK, so it's not the TV, it's the HDMI switch - seems that it's back-powering the Pi through the HDMI cable.

Lol infact..... and I'm trying to explain how this is possible :)
I have read on internet a similar issue on reddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/raspberry_pi/comments/4ddcxd/hdmi_causing_weird_power_issues_with_raspberry_pi/Apparently i can try this unidirectional cable but from my pi4 i need a minihdmi -> hdmi unidirectional.
have you ever had similar problems? Or or read of other similar experiences?at this point one also wonders .. can this little tension that goes back towards the pi4 damage the latter?
-
This is rare, but it happens, that's why I asked to remove any connected (active) equipment.

I'd say no, but it's probably annoying since it's keeping the fan on.

There's no an issue because i have found also a workaround. I simply need to switch the input selector on hdmi-switch and my Pi4 turns off immediately :)
we can however say that it is not a problem on the software side and therefore retropie or debian has no faults :)
Another question it's... how i can identify my actual hdmi cable if it's unidirectional or bidirectional ?
Anyway i never wrote it but the switcher i am using is this:
https://www.amazon.it/UGREEN-Bidirezionale-Commutatore-Sdoppiatore-Proiettore/dp/B07H7JCCKMHow the decription say... it's bidirectional and in theory it's works on both side like splitter or like a switcher.
EDIT
Another interesting question it's:
Are all switches / splitters causing the same problem? or it's only this specific model ? -

Never heard of 'unidirectional' HDMI/HDMI cable, but you probably have a regular cable, which can be plugged either way.
