RETROARCH under Retropie: how to keep a bios?
-
Hi,
When trying to do netplay with friends, i launch a game then click : "start+Y" to open RETROARCH GUI, then i refresh the netplay severs list and try to join one.
The issue is, my bios always disapear after RETROARCH is exited. I must everytime select back a bios before trying to launch a game. (i already saved the Retroarch configuration state, it doesnt change anything)
Any idea ?

How do you 'select a BIOS' ?
RetroArch is setup to automatically look under theBIOS
folder. If you reset the RetroArch configuration, the BIOS (System) folder would be reset to a different location and the libretro cores/emulators may not find the required files.(i already saved the Retroarch configuration state, it doesnt change anything)
That's not recommended, you may have reset the system folder's location, as explained above.
When opening a support topic, please add the info requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first, it will make it easier to diagnose the issue and find a solution.

@mitu When i do SELECT+Y,
then i go to Settings > Core > Manage Core
Then nothing is defined here. I must click on "Install or Restore a Core" everytime.Otherwise, all my content (ROMS for SNES) are displayed well. So it may not be a configuration reset?

@nunna78 These are not BIOS, these are the retroarch cores (emulators). There must be something wrong with your setup, please provide the required informations

RetroArch's cores are installed differently in RetroPie - as separate packages in RetroPie-Setup - and that's why they're not found automatically by RetroArch.
This does pose a problem with netplay (as a client) when you're trying to join a random game. Right now, it only works with a specific partner after you configure Netplay as detailed here. This might change in the future, but right now using Netplay in a similar fashion as in standalone RetroArch is not out-of-the-box.

@mitu Glad to know this will change in the future. It's actually really tricky to use netplay..but so must funniest to play with other players. A nice netplay should be plug and play and also crossPlatform.
Is it under developpment or draft project?

Also serve chips and dips.

It's not under development, for now it's just an idea to solve the issue that @saccublenda mentioned in their last reply.

As a workaround you can create a symbolic link to the retroarch cores as explained here.
Thanks saccublenda, i give it a try :-)
