8BitDO SN30 - Latest RetroPie Issues
-
I haven't done a lot with my old 3B lately... but recently dropped the latest standalone version of RetroPie on a clean flash card and booted her up, only to realize pretty quickly that my much-loved SN30 bluetooth gamepad wasn't working quite right anymore. I was able to connect and register the controller quite easily. But, in a few NES and SNES games that I tested, certain buttons didn't seem to work correctly and Select+Start would not cause me to exit a game, like it used to do.
I have a few specific questions such as:
-
What are the correct controller settings to use for this 8BitDO device, in terms of things like "hack on" or "hack off" and "udev" etc? (Apologize if these terms are not quite accurate; I'm trying to remember what I saw in the menu options last night...)
-
It's starting to look like maybe I need to update the firmware on this controller, but I haven't been able to figure out how to accomplish that, so far. (I currently have access to a Mac OS desktop as well as the Pi 3B itself, of course.) Has anyone successfully updated the FW on the old-ish SN30?
Appreciate any help, tricks, or tips! :)

There shouldn't be any special settings for the (old) SN30 controller (i.e. using the
udev
rule or the 8bitdohack
options). For the firmware update, try using https://download.8bitdo.com/Firmware/Controller/SN30+SF30/ - the last
zip
file contains an macOS application for update. From Linux (Pi), you can useebitdo-tool
with the files from https://github.com/fwupd/8bitdo-firmware. -

@mfraz74 Looks like Debian doesn't package the
8bitdo-tool
or it's included in a plugin, but I haven't usedfwupd
so far, so I can't offer more details. Try using the macOS updater to install the latest (4.20 I think) version of the firmware.
