@x_speed said in Pi Zero 2 released:

Is there any place to follow the development here?

Development happens on the public Github repository - https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup.

To see what's new in new images and even more important when new images are going to be released?

When a new image is released, it's usually posted on the RetroPie site. As for when, there isn't a strict schedule or a roadmap for it.

I am excited to get the PI Zero W 2 and put it in my GPI case. But it needs a good OS of course so I'm gonna wait until that's ready.

@paradoxgbb One thing to consider in terms of battery life is installing a rechargeable battery. I can confirm that I have successfully used these mod instructions:

              @cnoto Thanks, interesting.

As I understand it you can stick rechargeables in the AA slots and can also plug directly into a USB bank if you have to as well.

My GPi case should be arriving today or tomorrow so I'll have to give it a try.

@paradoxgbb comes with a DC USB cable as well as another option. It's how I use it mainly

                Pi 5 4GB

Retroflag GPI with raspberry pi zero 2 w/ wifi

Since the Zero2 uses the ARMv8 architecture (instead of ARMv6 on the "original" Zero).

Which image is the correct/better one to use? zero, or 2/3?

@x_speed the 2-3 image. But use the weekly release version

@brunnis do you have a copy of the October build please? There doesn’t seem to be any weekly builds up anymore? Or are new ones due?

                      Thanks

Probably something failed during the weekly build and the images haven't been created.
You can install on-top of Raspberry Pi OS (Buster) (download. from here)using the manual method.

I have paused them temporarily due to my server being in the process of some updates. The last weekly build is fine to use.

Ah they shouldn't have gone sorry. I must have forgotten to stop a cron job that removes old ones. I'll put a build back shortly.

@paradoxgbb I mentioned this in the other GPi thread, but you might need rechargeables with decent current output.

I've seen reports on Reddit that cheap low-capacity batteries cut out with the Zero 2W in the GPi case.

I am using Ikea Ladda 2450 in mine and they're fine. Panasonic Eneloop Pro are also reportedly good.

@suprjami Yeah, I'm using the same Ikea batteries and have had no issues so far.

I've just used the normal version for the pi2/3 and added the appropriate boot file for the zero2

@suprjami , @Brunnis , yeah, apparently it's really finicky on what batteries it'll take. Cheaper but higher capacity ones like energizer and ravpower ones don't work, but lower capacity enloops do, at least for me. Someone else just mentioned enloop pros as well and they are on the pricy side but I just took the plunge anyway.

Overall, very impressed with this thing, it can pack a decent punch. Totally worth drilling the hole in the top, IMO. Me and some other folks are having some trouble with Wifi cutting out while transferring large files, we're trying to understand that better...

                                      There's some great additional developments

                                      Silver-X produced a tuned image here: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/31708/gpi-zero-2-v1-17-retroflag-gpi-image-for-pi-zero-2-w/14?_=1638400023362

I wasn't able to get wifi working on it but lifted the toggle scripts from him and they are very, very useful.

Looks like we'll have a wifi osk very soon, hopefully:

@lordluca It was mentioned somewhere in the first posts of this topic - you can use the weekly built image for the Pi3 from http://files.retropie.org.uk/images/weekly/.
