Pi Zero 2 released

@paradoxgbb I mentioned this in the other GPi thread, but you might need rechargeables with decent current output.
I've seen reports on Reddit that cheap low-capacity batteries cut out with the Zero 2W in the GPi case.
I am using Ikea Ladda 2450 in mine and they're fine. Panasonic Eneloop Pro are also reportedly good.
-
@suprjami Yeah, I'm using the same Ikea batteries and have had no issues so far.
-
I've just used the normal version for the pi2/3 and added the appropriate boot file for the zero2
https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware/blob/master/boot/bcm2710-rpi-zero-2.dtb
[Edit] nvm, i see the weeklies are back -
@suprjami , @Brunnis , yeah, apparently it's really finicky on what batteries it'll take. Cheaper but higher capacity ones like energizer and ravpower ones don't work, but lower capacity enloops do, at least for me. Someone else just mentioned enloop pros as well and they are on the pricy side but I just took the plunge anyway.
Overall, very impressed with this thing, it can pack a decent punch. Totally worth drilling the hole in the top, IMO. Me and some other folks are having some trouble with Wifi cutting out while transferring large files, we're trying to understand that better...
There's some great additional developments
Silver-X produced a tuned image here: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/31708/gpi-zero-2-v1-17-retroflag-gpi-image-for-pi-zero-2-w/14?_=1638400023362
I wasn't able to get wifi working on it but lifted the toggle scripts from him and they are very, very useful.
Looks like we'll have a wifi osk very soon, hopefully:
-
hi. i wonder is there any pi zero W 2 SD images out yet? 32gb? 64gb?
-
@lordluca It was mentioned somewhere in the first posts of this topic - you can use the weekly built image for the Pi3 from http://files.retropie.org.uk/images/weekly/.
-
@mitu Not what he was asking for. notice 32gb or 64gb
-
@daywane Not sure what you mean ?
The images provided fit both a 32 or 64 Gb sdcard/usb drive, just like the rest of the images provided on retropie.org.uk/download. -
@mitu i think he or she is looking for full image. like from arcade punk
-
@daywane If so, then this is not the place to ask for it :) We don't distribute nor support those.

Does anyone know if the Pi zero 2 can run lr-snes9x?
I have a rpi zero console built which is rpi zero 2 compatible and I really want to play Zelda a link to the past with the msu-1 hack, which requires lr-snes9x.
I tried to find a list of the 02's capabilities but I couldn't find one so I decided to try and ask, hopefully this is the right place. -
@HairDyeGuy why not just try? you can install it via optional packages.
my guess is it won't run well. snes9x has only really been viable on pi4, and any additional emulated enhancement chips are only going to exacerbate things.

Mostly because I don't have one yet. I wanted to find out before I buy one 😬

Damn, that's a real shame. I was hoping to play msu hacks on a portable machine (long live handhelds).
Oh well, thanks anyway! -
@HairDyeGuy I just tested a couple SNES MSU roms (Link to the past, rock and roll racing) using lr_snes9x on the pi zero 2 and they work just fine. I used the weekly build from a couple months back.
-
It's been a while since I've tested lr-snes9x on my pi3b but the slowdowns would happen when there was heavy transparencies like in megaman x 1's water area in the octopus level or the ones that used a double res like trials of mana. You can test those.
-
@Fruitybit I hadn't considered getting a zero honestly but after recently checking out the specs, I think I might have a go at making a handheld :)
-
Now Autumn is approaching I've been thinking about coming back to the Pi scene with a Pi Zero 2 project but getting one at a sensible price (or at all) is a no go at the moment.
Are people mostly running theirs 'vanilla' or overclocked to try and mimic the Pi 3's specs?
