@sleve_mcdichael lol, the term pelotudo is mainly used in argentina and uruguay. I'm uruguayan, I thought you thought I was Argentinian.
-
@sleve_mcdichael I just ordered the canakit, next I will get an SD card and download retropi unto it. What if I use the SD card from the broken raspberry, will it work?
-
will it work?
Probably.
-
@sleve_mcdichael So I just got a canakit, I put it together and burned retropie unto a new SD card. I have a USB flash drive with the retropie folder, but I can't get it to read the roms. I download a rom on my computer, I copy it unto the flash drive and then insert into the raspberry. But nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?
-
@pelotudo I've only done it over WiFi but looking at the docs, it looks like you're supposed to:
- take a usb stick with nothing on it except a "retropie" folder.
- connect it to the Pi. Wait for it to copy the folder structure over to the usb stick.
- take the usb stick and put it in your computer. Put the roms on the stick.
- put the stick back in the Pi. Wait for it to copy the roms over.
Is this what you did?
-
@sleve_mcdichael yes, I've actually managed to download 2 nes games, it's the MAME games that won't transfer over. Do arcade games require something different? So far I am able to download home console games only with no problem.
-
Do arcade games require something different?
I don't think so. What folder are you putting them in?
-
@sleve_mcdichael the mame folder, it seems that some roms download only one file with the games name on it. Other games download a bunch of files with different names, and those don't seem to work. I think it's more of the way it downloads on my computer. I've been transferring them using the raspberry IP, it works for some games and not others. I'll keep playing around with it until I figure it out. BTW, I spoke to the seller that sold me the original raspberry. He is going to send me a new one. So now I have two lol.
-
@sleve_mcdichael I read that mame roms need to be zip files, If I extract it, it won't work.
-
@pelotudo that's correct. Arcade romsets must be in
.zip
format. Most other roms can be left zipped, but don't have to be. Most emulators can read compressed.zip
and.7z
files, as well as the uncompressed native formats. PlayStation must be uncompressed and for N64 it depends on which emulator you use. Libretro core lr-mupen64plus can use.zip
but not.7z
; stand-alone Mupen64Plus can't use either. -
@sleve_mcdichael then there's the problem right there lol. Thank you for all your help, you've spent a lot of time on me. I'm going to continue to read up on this. It's all a learning experience for me and very interesting. Happy new year to you!!
