Atari Emulator Keyboard Navigation (setting up the 5200)

Hi All..
I am having trouble configuring the Atari 5200 emulator after a re-install of my Retropie on my Pi 4
After launching a 5200 game title, I get the "Emulation Halted" screen and can press F1 to bring up the Atari 800 Emulator version 3.1.0.
Unfortunately, my Up/Down arrow keys only select the top-most or bottom-most options, and anything in between is a guess..
I did find a prior post about this, however it doesn't solve the inability to navigate the menu..
Help!

@bumperscoot which post did you find? Working with the menus once the 5200 is properly setup is non-existent.
This is the best thread for setting up both the A5200 and A800 side-by-side. Since completing this, I haven't had to use anything other than the usual Libretro hot keys for exiting the 5200.
With this setup, you also have easy access to the menu when using the A800 for disk swapping.

I am a newcomer to Retropie, so I'm learning as I go.
I found many threads that required you to bang out to the emulator, navigate through the menu items to the Emulator Configuration page, and make changes to the System ROM Settings.. Unfortunately, every key on my keyboard or game pad causes the menu "cursor" to jump to the first or last items in the menu list. There is no way to "scroll".
I was following that exact thread, I'll give it a go and see if it works.
I believe I've got most of that correct on my own.What are Libretro hot keys?
Just curious, any ideas why others are able to navigate the emulator menu yet I can't?Thanks!

After wading through the morass of jumbled guides, posts, and threads, I'm still very lost and unsure why this isn't working.
To date, this is what I've done..The 5 Atari Bios roms are in "\RETROPIE\bios"

atari800.cfg https://pastebin.com/rmnCUcrmI've watched several tutorials on making this work however I am unable to navigate through the Atari emulator as my keyboard and game controller can only select the top-most or bottom-most menu items (the cursor will not "scroll" regardless of button or key, it jumps immediately to the top or bottom).
I've tried changing the controller type on the retroarch menu (I can bring up over the Atari Emulation Halted screen), but still no joy..I did find a "virtual" keyboard overlay, however it too is non functional.
Does this really work??

Looks correct as far as file and BIOS placement.
Did you add in the script?
Here is the condensed installation of the whole thing. It's very straight forward and simple to follow.
The files you sent look like mine as well... only difference I see in the A5200 files is in the Retroarch-core-options.cfg.
I have this:
atari800_opt1 = "enabled"and I know I did this because I kept getting blank screens and fails. So try that.
As far as the F1/A800 Menu. Try this... get into the RetroPie menu by using "select-X" and see what you have listed in the Quick Menu/Controls/Port 1 Controls. Device type should be Atari Joystick. If not, change it to that.
Also, did you get the correct BIOS files as mentioned. There are several sets that won't work, and also the extra one he mentioned must be installed as well (option 3 on the instructions).
Welcome to the RetroPie world. Some of these emulators are as rkoster put it "tricky" to get going, but once they do... it's done. And you get the benefit of having that old system at your fingertips with a press of 1 button.
The hardest part is usually finding the BIOS files. ROMs are easy to find if you know where/how to look. Tons of them out there in many places. But BIOS files must be specific and correct capitalization.
Try that first and let me know if it works.
I almost forgot... the "lr-hotkeys" Lr stands for Librettro. This is a core that works really well in Retropie for using shaders, overlays and other things. Some of the original Emulators do not allow this and are harder to get working in the RetroPie environment. So the great hobbyists/programmers "forked" many of them into the Libretto core and gave us all the "lr-" based versions.
While running any Librettro core, you have menu options that are separate from the emulator core as well. Accessed as I mentioned above with Select-X or whatever button you have as "X". In those menus you are now working with the actual Libtrettro core and how it interacts with the Emulator Core. So you can add Shaders, Change the graphics size, add Overlays... change controllers etc.. Tons of options.

Some mild success..
Starting from scratch, I deleted the retroarch.cfg file from the atari5200 folder, and miraculously, I regained the ability to "scroll" up/dn through the emulator choices.. Very weird.I then followed the steps found in an online video..
Very straightforward. I then discovered issues with the check sums for the ROM's I had, which I quickly resolved by selecting a different "set" I had found elsewhere.
Viola!
I was able to play 90% of the games I had! -
@bumperscoot Now that you have it working, back up your image and try the setup for the A800/A5200 above.
It works really well once it's set up. I've had mine set like this for 2 years and counting. It's just great to see the A800 games look as they should. They won't any other way.

Unfortunately the sound of the Atari800/5200 games (lr-atari800) is bad.😟

@buzztea When you say bad, what do you mean? Not like the original? Bad like it's not working? Be more specific.
I thought it sounded pretty accurate from what I remember. It's not going to be 100%, neither will the video, it's emulation. Only 100% will be a true A800 hooked to a 13" TV

Unfortunately, the sound comes out of the speakers very poorly. it doesn't sound "clean". But only with the "lr-Atari800" emulator. Everything is fine with the standalone "Atari800" Emu. -

It doesn't work.After step 3 comes the message:

I solved the problem. It was easy. An update from the lr-Atari800 emulator helped.
