EmulationStation System Volume Resetting 22% After Emulating a Game
-
Pi Model or other hardware: Raspberry Pi 3B+
Power Supply used: 5V AC Power Adapter
RetroPie Version Used: 4.7.21
Built From: Fresh Install from Raspberry Pi Imager
USB Devices connected: CanaKit Mini Wireless Keyboard
Controller used: Xin-Mo Arcade Controls
Guide used: I'm finding a lot of past issues similar to this, but in these past cases the volume always went to zero, not 22%. I've tried setting the audio settings in the Start Menu according to a post I saw from @mitu from some time ago. Audio Settings are as follows:
Audio Card: Default
Audio Device: HDMI
OMX Audio Device: ALSAHow to replicate the problem: I’m finding that any time I run a game, my EmulationStation volume resets to 22%. It does not seem to matter what libretro core I’m using or what game it is. I’ll set the
Start > Sound Settings > System Volume
to 100%, exit the menu, look around, check again to see it’s still at 100%, then play a game and return only to find it’s back to 22%. What could be happening? -
Hi,
I recall this happened to me once. I cannot recall the solution, but at the time I noticed my SD card was full and was causing random issues, might be worth checking that. -
@digriz Thank you for the advice. I’m only using about 30% of my SD storage at the moment, so I think we can rule that one out.

I can't replicate this. Do you have other on-start/on-end scripts running ?

@mitu I just figured it out moments ago after a lot of testing this morning. I have a third party music player that fades the volume before starting a game. I think what happens is it fades the system volume to fade the music before starting emulation. Then, when returning to ES, the System Volume remains what it was faded to prior to emulating the game.
This can be marked as resolved. I'll report this bug to the creator of the music player. Thank you!
