Hi all, I'm new here and a total beginner when it comes to Raspberry Pi's and Linux.

I want to install RetroPie on my RPi4 and used 2 guides, both of which give me the same problems. One was from the RetroPie website and the other guide was from makeuseof.
Basically when I do the basic install I get the following errors after 1+hr of the installer running:

      • Could not build sdl2
      • Could not build retroarch
      • Could not build sdl2 (again)
      • Could not build emulationstation
      • Could not build sdl2 (and again)
      • Could not build mupen64plus

This is very odd to me since I've gotten a fresh install of PiOS from 4-2022 (Where can I see the exact version?)
I did set the video memory to 256, since another user got it to work afterwards.
I do have a log file, but its too big for pastebin. Where can I post it? (I got it to work on ZeroBin: https://zerobin.net/?eb966d655635b3bd#K31aI6GyuhY831is0/ASAOUSHbbCV8lyoDSZ/bZuBxk= ) Its a very long log file, sorry about that.
      Pi model: Pi 4 B 8GB
PSU Used: USB charger 3A 5V
      RetroPie version used: 4.8
Built from: I did it through the console. On top of Pi OS 64 bit on Debian GNU/Linux 11 bullseye
USB Devices connected: Logitech Wired 600 keyboard, no name gaming mouse, Techkey Bluetooth USB module (still got the same errors without said module)
      Controller used: none
      Error messages received: Mentioned above

If anyone could help me with this I would be very grateful

@Swaggles said in Lots of packages can't be installed whilst installing RetroPie:

AFAIK know Retropie ain't supporting bullseye so far (nor 64bit OS (on the Raspi)), it has (for now) to be build on buster (Pi OS (legacy)).

          @Swaggles

Just as @Ashpool says it's not officially supported on bullseye.
But if you are really desperate, just look over here :

@ChesterCarl use RPiOS Legacy (Buster) or just use the image from the website.
