EmulationStation aborting at startup
-
Hello Everyone,
I have a Retropie on an RPi 3 B running the latest image with the latest updates from Retropie-Setup. All my roms are ran from a 32Gb fat32 USB (usbromservice is enabled).
Every time I restart my machine, EmulationStation aborts with the following message:
emulationstation: /home/pi/Retropie-Setup/tmp/build/emulationstation/es-core/src/InputManager;cpp:87: void InputManager::addjoystickByDeviceIndex(int): Assertion `id > -1 failed. Aborted
I tried to look into that location and the only path I see is
/home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/tmp/build/retroarch
If I type
exit
from the cli after it aborted, I can always go back in no problem.Any suggestions as to what could be happening?
Thanks in advance.

The error indicates an issue with the gamepad disconnecting while being configured.
You haven't provided any other info asked in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first, so can you please add the rest of the info (gamepads used, RetroPie version, power source, etc.). -
@mitu that actually lit the lightbulb!
It turns out that the Xbox controller was the offender. Somehow it was messing with emulationstation when left on while rebooting. If I turn off the controller, everything comes back from restart no problem.
