Bluetooth dongle for PS4 DualShock controller
-
Hiya,
RetroPie 4.8 running on a Pi4 B 4 GB with Flirc metal case, so I disabled the Pi’s internal Bluetooth. 8BitDo’s dongle works beautifully with their SFC30 controller as player 1. I’d like to add a second (third, fourth) controller, though.
Since I have a PS4 DS controller that I use for gaming on PC from time to time via Vivanco’s 30447 dongle, I’d like to use the PS4 DS controller for RetroPie, too. Unfortunately, the Vivanco dongle and the Pi won’t work together. So I need a different adaptor. The obvious choice which is also often mentioned in linked in older tutorials is Sony’s USB wireless adaptor but that one is either unavailable or ridiculously overpriced.
So … does anybody know a dongle that works with a PS4 DualShock controller, preferrably out of the box? I’m familiar with ssh, command line and vi but … experience tells me this often gets out of hand with RP.

@Isegrim the 8bitdo usb adapters work with the ps4 controller and work very well. Also ive had luck with mayflash adapters as well.

@lostless I should’ve mentioned I also tried pairing the DS controller with the 8BitDo adaptor (it’s even their old one) which went as smooth as it should be. Press pairing button on the dongle, put DS controller into pairing mode by pressing and holding
PS
+Start
so it starts to double-flash. Unfortunately, one 8BitDo dongle can only be paired with one controller at a time, so it’s either the SFC30 or the DS. This is fine for single player when switching controllers for old 2D and newer 3D platforms and both different controllers but not for mutiplayer parties with two, three or four controllers (which I intend on setting up).A quick search says the Mayflash dongles also support the PS4 DS but they’re even pricier than the 8Bitdo. However, they seem to be the only two dongles still available and produced today that support the PS4 DS.
Anway, thanks for the food for thought! Guess there’s no way around spending the ~ 20 € for either of them.

Try getting an ASUS USB-BT500 BT adapter, should work with Linux and multiple devices.

@mitu The price of 11.90 € / 10.46 £ seems reasonable. Order is placed and it’s on its way to me now. Thanks for the recommendation!
