I know we're not supposed to bump/reply to old threads. So I'll start a new one. First to quote the original post:

So as usual there's zero helpful documentation about this anywhere, but I eventually managed to bludgeon my way to the solution so here it is for anyone else using the likes of lr-mame2016 or lr-mame.

      (1) Go somewhere like here: http://www.mamecheat.co.uk/ and download a cheat file, which will be called something like CHEAT0245.ZIP.

      (2) Open that file and extract CHEAT.7Z from inside it.

      (3) Create a folder called CHEAT in /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/mame (for lr-mame) or /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/mame2016 (for lr-mame2016).

      (4) PUT CHEAT.7Z in that folder. (Do NOT put CHEAT0245.ZIP in there, it won't work. And do NOT unzip CHEAT.7Z either. Just drop the whole file in there.)

      (5) When you're playing the game you want to cheat in, go into the Retroarch menu and under Options set Enable cheats to On.

(Or you can enable them universally by editing MAME.OPT in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch/config/MAME, or MAME 2016.OPT in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch/config/MAME 2016, to include the line mame_cheats_enable = "enabled".)

      (6) Now when you're in the game the Tab menu will give you access to the cheats as usual. The end.

That being said, what are the instructions for lr-fbneo? I've copied the cheat.7z in the correct folder. But I'm struggling after that. Especially since tab doesn't bring up a menu. Or do these cheats not work in fbneo? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

You need to unpack them, see https://docs.libretro.com/library/fbneo/#cheats.

Don't blame documentation. It's just that you didn't look at the official documentation for some reason, while it should be your first source of information.

@barbudreadmon You misunderstand the post. That was from someone else's previous post, not my comment. I was only following the rules about not posting/bumping old threads. But I wanted to refer back to the original poster's message.

@mitu Thank you very much. I will try that!

Indeed, your post was extremely misleading, i'm not sure i understand the point of copying an old post about another emulator. The fact remains that the official documentation should be your first destination when you search answers about FBNeo.

@mitu Sorry to be a bother. Two parts still don't make sense.

FROM THE WEBSITE, "You can either use the RetroArch cheat feature, or download a pack of FBNeo native cheats from here and uncompress them into the SYSTEM_DIRECTORY/fbneo/cheats/ folder, then they'll become available through core options (Quick Menu > Options, NOT Quick Menu > Cheats), using a MAME cheat.dat file should also work."

                  1. What is the full path for SYSTEM_DIRECTORY/fbneo/cheats/? I found a cheats folder in bios/fbneo/cheats as well as configs/all/retroarch/cheats/finalburn neo. Do they mean opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-fbneo?

                  2. In Retroarch, when I go to Quick Menu, Options I see no cheat options?

                  Thanks @mitu

In your post at https://forums.libretro.com/t/finalburn-neo-cheats-problem/40463 you say to go to Quick Menu, Core Options, Cheat. "Core Options" is not available under Quick Menu. If I go Quick Menu, Options, Manage Core Options, there are no cheat commands.

It is unzipped and in the bios folder there will be fbneo and inside it cheats, what is unzipped is put in that folder, I usually have a tendency to leave a file called cheat.dat outside that folder, if it is easier for you you can use samba

                      [link text]https://github.com/finalburnneo/FBNeo-cheats/archive/master.zip(link url)

now when you go to load a game you must access retroarch and the cheats in this case are not in the quick menu - tricks but in the quick menu - core options , here you will see cheats enabled access , if you do not see it it is because that game does not cheats are supported

@wicketewoks THANK YOU so much for your help. Once I copied the cheats into bios/fbneo/cheats, I am able to finally see cheats under Quick Menu, Options, Cheats.

                          made a dummy cheat.dat file in bios/fbneo

Why would you need this ? FBNeo won't read it
