      Ooh.

Finally found one available after the 11th store attempt.

@Addison I was able to preorder mine through Vilros.com. I even found a discount code online for use with Vilros that saved me $8.

            @quicksilver

Must have been late to that party since they showed they were all sold out at the time.

Glad you scored one though. :)

            Edit:

Doesn't help for US orders but I pre-ordered from pimoroni.

So the next PI OS is built on Debian Bookworm? I guess it may also become the OS version that is usable on the pi4 as well eventually? Or it's inevitable that the pi4 will stick on buster and when there's a new Retropie build for pi5 on a while that will be on the new bookworm based OS?

Just as with previous releases for RaspiOS/Raspbian, the Bookworm release will support all Pi models. It's been in beta testing for a while and, when released, will support every Pi model.

No, I don't think so. We try to use the same OS release for all Pi models.

While waiting for a month, can I early buy this casing for the upcoming 5?

                  alt text

I have that both for my current 4s and it's really quite nice.

It's the best case design in my opinion.

                  Linky for that purchase:

                    @Addison It's only compatible with RPi4. RPi5 and RPi4 boards have differences.

They're not compatible. The Pi5 has the LAN port on the left, just like on PI3, has no analog jack output and the extra power button will not be available with a Pi4 case. Read the announcement for more details.

@dodonpachi I didn't really notice a giant difference in ppsspp either but he was running at 3x resolution, whereas I think 2x is the max on pi4 generally? Although I know I enabled on autoframeskip as well on pi4. I don't think he outlined what settings he used. He was using the version that Retropie points to, v1.13.2 maybe?

I guess running at the newer ppssp version that's in the RetroPie Extras and building with Vulkan would give some further improvements?

@retropieuser555 He was running God of War at 1x resolution and Tekken at 3x resolution. He wasn't using frame-skip at all.

I found anther video that is a couple of years old and God of War ran in the mid 20s FPS on a stock Pi 4.

He'll probably drop a Dolphin video soon, hopefully we can make some comparisons with the experiments some of us made here with Dolphin on the Pi 4.

                          Currently running:
Retropie 4.8.9 on a Pi Zero 2W (Overclock Settings: CPU 1400Mhz)
                          ES-DE on a GMKtec K6 (Windows 11, 32GB RAM)

Wow, just recognized the Pi5 will be released next week :O
Out of nothing...i love this Modus Opperandi of Upton and his company....: surprise surprise! :D

I could imagine this will end in a similar situation as we had with the Pi4 (which is no problem for me personal, i will have patience as i had with the Pi4):
                            lots of threads like
"(...)when will retropie be released for the Pi5??? I cant wait - speed up!(...)"

I wont order a Pi5 now as i only use the Pis for my beloved Retropie-Project, which will take some time to show up on this new device.

Yup, and by that time another Pi5-board revision may be out (whatever it is that may be faulty this time or with allowance for higher clock-rates due to some design changes (or whatever it was that led to the arm-boost=1 config.txt option)) ;)

Lots of early Pi5 emulation here. Looks like he had some trouble still with N64. No Dolphin or PS2 footage yet.

@George-Spiggott I would hold off on making more videos until the software is more mature. I'll assume that when pi os bookworm is released, it still won't have the latest version of the mesa/vulkan drivers.

Luckily, the pikiss dev has said that he'll update his repo with pi5 support when he can. You can install the drivers from his repo.

Will Retropie ever include custom mesa/vulkan drivers like what Redream has?

@Darksavior do a couple of scripts point towards pikiss? Or maybe I'm thinking of the RetroPie Extras unofficial scripts? I haven't looked at pikiss much and compared those scripts to the official ones, I'd be curious to see what extra steps are or aren't used in them. Surely the only differences you can do is just a few extra build options or pointing towards different batches?

Probably not. Note that Redream's drivers are not necessary when using bullesye or later, since the optimizations that @inolen added are already part of the distro's Mesa version.

@retropieuser555 none of my script point to pikiss directly.

I did with his premission. Use his files to get more ports to work on Retropie.
no drivers though other then what is needed to get Diablo 2 to work

Also. RetroPie-Extras will not be doing anything with the Pi5 until RetroPie supports it.
it would be just a headache to try that without something to base the install from.

and that, i dont have the funds to get a Pi5 right now. i know they are not pricey, but still.

Do you have any idea when RetroPie will be available for the Pi5 is it something already being worked on by the devs? I'm not expecting it to be this year or anytime soon just excited to know what's going on 😀

Probably speculation but is there anything to suggest the Pi5's GPU works differently to the Pi4's beyond a higher clock speed? Many of us were overclocking the Pi4's V3D to 800mhz and higher. Is it possible that games where this was the bottleneck may not be noticeably faster?
