Hacked Roms not loading
-
Hi Gamers
So almost all my pure roms work fine on my Emulator - great. However non of the hacked roms (and a few normal ones) do not load. I see the image but when I select the game I get a black screen and then in bounces me back to the original menu.
Any ideas?

You forgot to mention which hacks are you using and which emulator ?
There's nothing in RetroPie that modifies the emulators' included to prevent hacks from working, but do note that certain emulators have checks in place that prevent loading hacks (i.e. FBNeo has a core option to allow loading 'hacked' roms. all arcade emulators will check the filename and their contents to be correct, etc.).
Also, version 4.1 of RetroPie cannot possibly work with a Pi 4B - which RetroPie version are you actually using and how did you install it ?

Hi Mitu
Thank you for getting back to me.
I am using various SNES Mario Kart hacks such as:
Super Mario Kart - Real World Tracks
Reversed N Remixed
MoreSuperMarioKart1_01I am not sure how to tell what versions I am iusing, I downloaded RetroPi about 2 months ago. Could it be version 4.8 or would that not work either?
Apologies for the noobish questions

How did you apply the hacks ? Do they work in another emulator - and which one ? Which emulator are you using the start the game ?

It's printed at the top of RetroPie-Setup, when you start it from EmulationStation.

I just tried the 1st ROM hack you mentioned Super Mario Kart - Real World Tracks and it seems to work fine on RetroPie, with
lr-snes9x
.NOTE: to play a 'hacked' rom, you need both the original ROM file and the hack and they need to be combined together in order for the hack to work. If you have downloaded the patch/hack file from romhacking.net and you're trying to run it directly it will not work - see https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Apply_ROM_hacks_and_translations and an online site where you can patch your ROM here.
