That's normal - the OS you've flashed doesn't contain RetroPie nor is fully supported by RetroPie.
Work to support the Pi5 is ongoing and at this time the only way to install it is through a manual installation over a RaspiOS Lite image. -
@mitu Ok thank you.
Do you know where I could find that image? and any info on how to do that?
Many thanks !!

@mitu Sorry for all the questions. Just starting.
Would a usb game controller work better and would that be an easier solution until retropie supports the Pi 5.
Not super tech savvy but learning and going insane trying to get this to work :) :)
Thank you

There's no image, as I said you can do a manual installation over the latest RaspiOS Lite image, as detailed in the docs.

Better than .. ? No, using an USB gamepad doesn't make it 'easier' to run RetroPie on a Pi5.

Then I suggest either waiting for a Pi5 image to be released or use a Pi4/Pi3 which are supported already. Which (retro)games are you interested to run on your Pi ?

@mitu Mostly MAME.
Gets worse tho. Pi 5 is 2 weeks old very erratic and freezing up.
Tried to run Eeprom from sd card which leads to a green screen.
Tried from a usb which does nothing.
Tried to install lite 64 bit led to some linux 12 ttyl message and same thing on lite 32.
Wondering if I have a bad component on my board. Trying to contact the seller to see if this is under warrantly. Yes might have been better with a 4 or 4b 8gb . Pi 4b 8gb has support correct and should be stable?
Oh well. Not as techy as I could or should be. Thank you for your help !!

RetroPie image for Pi5 it is not ready yet. You have to do a manual installation of everything. Take a look on this guide: https://github.com/danielfreer/raspberrypi5-retropie-setup. It have pictures with every step you have to do.
As for the freezing issue you have to describe it better : https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first

Multiple problems.
EEPROM installation takes me to green screen (and won't install)
Lite OS 64 bit (and 32) fail to install end with something saying
roughly Linux 12 .... ttyl
Recommended 64 OS won't install.
Have tried new SD cards and USB several times without success.
THank you !!

Green screen means that you have successfully update the eeprom.
If you install Pi OS Desktop from Pi imager, the system is booting? -
