According to this forum thread, it sounds like it should be:

      https://www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=398590&page=0&view=expanded&sb=5&o=&fpart=1&vc=1

I have lr-mame 0.264 installed (in both lr-mamearcade and lr-mamemess versions) on my Pi4 via @Folly's handy downloads, and what I want to run is the Coleco Adam disk version of Chuckie Egg, which requires the SGM.

The game runs using the mamemess_libretro.so version with this commandline:

      lr-mess-adam-disk = "/home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/scriptmodules/run_mess.sh /opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/bin/retroarch /home/pi/Downloads/lr-mame264/mamemess_libretro.so /opt/retropie/configs/adam/retroarch.cfg adam /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS -flop1 %ROM%"

but there are no options in the Tab menu to enable the SGM so it has no sound. Was the SGM support added after 0.264, or am I missing something somewhere?

Raspberry Pi 3b and 8GB Raspberry Pi 4, both running Retropie 4.7.1 installed from scratch using Raspberry Pi Imager, with wired keyboard, wireless mouse and double arcade joystick attached.

You have a basic/homemade gamelist.xml with images here for that system

            Removed my earlier post.
Found the file and will have a second look.

Indeed the game works and found that you need the keypad keys in order to get it working.
Also found that it has no sound.

SGM support is added for the driver coleco only (from 265).
I found that the driver adam doesn't have this option in the slots, even with 271.

So sadly there is no way to get sound working, even on 271 unless the mame developers are willing to add it.

Not sure if SGM was an option for a real Adam.
            Do you know ?

The driver coleco hasn't got the ability to add a disk-drive otherwise that would be an option.

I read that most of these games are ported from MSX.
The story goes that in order to make porting easier the SGM module has a Yamaha music chip that is the same as used in MSX.

So why not run the original game on MSX ?
